Nymphea alba (European white water lily): Scottish Small Pipes' "Tune Tutorials" (free and open) played on an A chanter from the College of Piping's Blue Tutor, Volume 3, by Scott MacLeod * * * Co-teaching Yoga in Pittsburgh, Inspiration from Angela and Victor? * * * Intentional Communities ONLINE * * * Sunheart at Harbin - How would we develop virtual Harbin in Street View as an intentional community? * * * A Note from Angela Farmer

Good morning, M,

Per the way you began this email thread:
"Yes, I do think going to meetings, joining a group with a common interest, teaching or taking a yoga class for example, etc. posting a profile on a website (I know a fair number of people who met partners on the internet) - are all opportunities to meet a partner. Get the info out there..."

Am thinking of heading to take a Yoga course with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio - https://angela-victor.com/content/schedule from Sat 10/19-Wed10/23 - and although very much pre-mature, brainstorming-wise, am curious if somehow I might even invite Pittsburgh Yoga teacher Linda Meacci. ... After getting WUaS up and running with A) BPPE, B) WASC senior and re C) funding, am exploring heading back to Pittsburgh - to raise a family even. Would you, Ma, like to have an early Thanksgiving together on Thursday, 10/24/19 :)?

Very good piping lesson with Finlay in Glasgow earlier (it's so great to be able to do this via video conferencing) ... (see my email to Finlay MacDonald below as well).

How has your week gone? And what are you up to this weekend?

Love, Scott

...

Finlay (at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow, Scotland),

Thanks so much for the lesson. Glad to get my Walsh Scottish small pipes' Combo Drone working on both its notes (D & E) and with the tuner as a beginning baseline from the High A on the chanter - and in newly exploring playing what I'll call "modal, medieval" harmonies (a la folk rock band Steeleye Span from the late 1960s and 1970s, and Jethro Tull too) which is a sound I'd like to explore further. Appreciating too our generative learning conversation in these lesson regards - and glad to connect too. Thank you.

Glad too to work out my tuning question re differential blowing for high A compared with low A on chanter ... and to focus on the blowing of the high A for tuning as a kind of baseline.

Great too to explore playing the 4 different tunes from sheet music, and potentially in different keys, with the Combo Drone:

The ScotsAire Hornpipe (in the key of A?)

The Streaker (in E?)

The Queen's Own Highlanders Polka (in D?)

Paddy's Leather Breeches (in B?)

... to hear what tunes might work with which 'chord drones' and why.

Was it George MacDonald in 1836 who you said first started to write down bagpiping music on paper (and re the Scottish Small Pipes' new 1) B flat chanter and the 2) A chanter re "Piper's A" which is actually often a B flat on the GHB)?

I'll lay out some further goals to chart development (item 3 - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm) for our upcoming lesson 3rd lesson (along the lines of having recorded all the College of Piping's Blue Tutor Vol 3 tunes on the SSP A chanter for learning - https://soundcloud.com/scottmacleod-com). I may possibly begin to record the tunes - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html - for my upcoming "Honey in the Bag" album and am now with exploring the Combo Drone for pretty modal harmonies; may also explore recording the CoP Blue Tutors tunes on the D and B flat chanters. Would love to hear you play some of these for learning from. Seeking to bring them up to tempo, especially the fast ones, and with drive.

And looking for ongoing connections re item 12 in these above Guidelines which I'm learning from:

'12 Look for connections. (Make the social aspect of practicing regenerative - S.M.)
Music washes away the dust of everyday life from your feet.'

Thanks so much - and for the social aspect of playing and learning from you especially.

Cheers, Scott

Hi Ma,

Some further odds and ends re Yoga teacher Linda Meacci and our emailing today below.

What did you think of Quantum's "Looking for Violeta"? Am curious about Linda's misspelling of this "looking for violate" - ...  Linda won't be able to head to Yellow Springs to a course with Angela 10/19-10/23 - ... since there are no Quantum plays scheduled then, I noticed. Could you possibly please inquire with Karla Boos ... would like to invite Linda to this course with Angela Farmer - per you 'odds and ends' suggestions - re taking or teaching a Yoga course :) As you'll see below, I'm exploring too moving to, and teaching Yoga in, Pittsburgh perhaps in the second half of 2020, even while I continue to develop World Univ & Sch, and teach there too. (But it could still make sense to hang onto the Canyon 94516 place ... maybe big Quantum Theatre contributors might even enjoy the reward of visiting the SF Bay Area and staying there for free). And I could also use it as a base for actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic research into the future, as a begin a gradual move back to Pittsburgh ... all possibly contingent upon the potentiality to begin a family. ... Would she be good to explore connecting with? :) Could you possibly please check in with Karla Boos about some of these questions? ... Thank you!

Will probably post in my blog today the "Tune Tutorials" recordings, as well as some about my lessons and learning with Finlay.

Methinks that Linda or Bob Bishop (see below) would make a great organizer re my teaching Yoga in Pittsburgh - and having an organizer (or two) would be invaluable re my previous experience with teaching Yoga! :)

What are you up to this weekend? :)

L, Scott

Hi Linda,

I hope this email finds you well. How are you?

Am thinking of heading to take a Yoga course with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio - https://angela-victor.com/content/schedule - from Sat 10/19-Wed 10/23. Would you have any interest in heading there together and going to some or all of this? Angela is wondrous - and Yellow Springs is relatively close to Pittsburgh.

Blogged further about some of our May envisionings:) https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/cream-spot-tiger-butterfly-society.html

Exploring returning to Pittsburgh in late 2020 or 2021 (and possibly to begin a family and raise kids there as well), - and for teaching Yoga in Pgh too (even as I grow MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch). (First places that come to mind for teaching Yoga in Pgh are the Friends' Meeting House in Shady Side, the (pretty) Homewood Library branch 3rd floor room, where I've taught before, and possibly the Mellon Park Arts' Center).

Warm regards, Scott

Hello Scott,

Thank you for the invite to study with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I will be in Italy from Oct 7- Nov 10 for our back-to-back Yoga Retreats. So I will not be able to attend Angela's workshops. I hope you get to attend!

I think all the places you mentioned to teach are good options. Friends Meeting House is renovating. I imagine it will be beautiful. Their rental charge is reasonable. Homewood Library is also a good idea! I think it would have be donation based in the library. But that can work nicely.

And also the arts center is a good idea. I have taught out of a few Presby Churches through the years and that has always been easy.

I don't know the actress you mentioned, but I just saw Quantum's latest production "looking for violate". The chilean music was amazing!

Keep me posted on your plans and I hope you make it to Yellow Springs. Thank you for thinking of me.

peace

Linda

Hi Linda,

Thanks for your email. Your teaching in Italy sounds very very wonderful! And what a great trip as well! It looks like I'll probably miss "Looking for Violeta" if I were to head back to Pgh for 19 Oct-23 Oct for a course with Angela ... and although my mother saw a Quantum show recently this August, I haven't heard back from my mother Jane about Yoga in Yellow Springs, whom I've inquired about with her. My mother knows Karla Boos, Quantum's director, so will wait re any indications from ma mere in these regards.

Thanks too for the feedback about good Yoga spaces to teach in in Pgh. Am curious - brainstorming-wise - how you and I exploring teaching together could increase people in our hypothetical combined course, and in our individual classes. Will give this some thought - I know of no Yoga teachers that teach regularly together in a city - and flourishingly. Do you? Angela and Victor only seem to be mostly teaching together in Greece these days - and people come a long way to take their courses - and Lesvos isn't a city. And I haven't heard much about Rodney and Colleen teaching Yoga together these days, for ex., but re this Yoga journal article about Rodney and Donna - https://www.yogajournal.com/lifestyle/yoga-couples-donna-fone-and-rodney-yee - it seems that if one of the co-teachers was an organizer, that this could increase attendance in the co-taught Yoga classes, as well as the individually taught Yoga classes. Angela and Victor's organizer is Patricia Schneider who lives in Yellow Springs! And while she too is a Yoga teacher, she gets to study with Angela by bringing her to Yellow Springs, and both she and Angela earn some money, and share Angela's wonderful teaching there. Seeking to give this co-teaching idea more consideration.

Happy Yoga travels, and great to get your email, Scott

Linda,

J is a good actress as you'll see in the 4 minute video at the top here ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/08/arctic-raspberry-philosophy-in-this-blog.html?m=0 ...

She also seems like she could dote on kids ... worth learning if she's a good egg, and is seeking to begin a family (from my mother). There is much trickery in the world re the Desiderata - http://mwkworks.com/desiderata.html - and yet finding a great partner for family is worth discerning (to use a Quaker word).

Are you looking to increase your Yoga class size? Do you think acting instruction could help? Angela seems like she's had acting classes in the past - and gone deeply with them. What are you seeking as a Yoga teacher? Are you seeking to co-teach, or what do you envision with regards to what you're seeking (if anything) in your Yoga and teaching?
I've asked my mother about the question of inviting J to Angela's Yoga's course in Yellow Springs - but there aren't any hot springs there! :)

Warmly, Scott

Hi Sunheart, Angela and Victor,

Am curious about your thinking re creating World University and School as an online intentional community. How? From your perspectives, what's an intentional community (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_community)? If we were to enter into World Univ & Sch here in a realistic virtual earth in Google Street View (to which we could all add resources and help create this) ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg and with avatar bots eventually (~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) how would we develop this as an intentional community? Beginning with Hippies - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hippies - and - You at World University - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University on the wiki-teacher and wiki-learning side ... Group video conferencing into avatar bots and ... ?

Dear Scott

Good luck with your dreams and projects.
What you feel and think is all that matters and if it comes from a place in your heart that really wants to express your soul personally and so benefit others...be assured it will manifest in some form and in its own time.
That is what I have learned.

I am not an Internet person and my life is full already and fulfilling with my practice, my teaching and an evolving project to bring more help to refugees.

I wish you success and joy on Your path
Much love
Angela

Dearest Angela,

Thanks for your wisdom, - so much appreciated. Am tuning into what I 'feel and think is all that matters and if it comes from a place in {my} heart that really wants to express {my} soul personally and so benefit others ... be assured it will manifest in some form and in its own time.'

Although you being not an email person, am appreciating reading your email, and so quickly in response to mine thanks to the Web - incroyable!

Do you happen to know a Linda Meacci (see email below), who's a Yoga teacher in Pittsburgh, PA, or a J.F. there who works in Q Theatre? Part of my heart that really wants to express my soul personally and so benefit others involves beginning a family and raising my kids  ... and J is beautiful in these regards. I may seek to explore co-teaching Yoga with Linda in Pittsburgh at some point. Perhaps if I explore coming back to Pittsburgh and Yellow Springs for your course, we can explore this further. :)

Much love, Scott

Angela,

In addition to beginning a family -

... J.F. is a good actress as you'll see in the 4 minute video at the top here ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/08/arctic-raspberry-philosophy-in-this-blog.html?m=0 - and it's to be seen if she's a good egg as well -

... my heart's a little in traveling up to Harbin, soaking in the warm pool, and writing ethnographically about this too re both the actual, as well as the 'virtual'  :)

...

Love, Scotty
