Wiki Genealogy Feed (What would you suggest if someone could do genealogy research in a physical archive for 2 hours, eg in the physical Boulder Colorado Historical Society - see if I could get actual genetic samples somehow of my grandparents even?)

Hi Mark
(MacLeod, 1st cousin),

Greetings! What would you suggest if someone could do genealogy research in a physical archive for 2 hours, eg in the

Boulder Historical Society

My mother's parents were both born in Boulder Colorado and my grandmother's father, Oscar Monroe Gilbert was a MD in a Tuberculosis sanitarium in Boulder Colorado for decades.

The Rainbow Gathering is in NW Colorado this year, and I'm considering going - and might seek to do research on the Brown, Gilbert, and Kirkbride families in Boulder while I'm there.  (Was there once in around 1988 at a Gilbert family reunion in Estes Park Colorado, and we went to Boulder as well as the mining town of Gold Hill, where a great great uncle George Kirkbride had a general store.

While I am not on Ancestry .com any more, I would like to add anything I find to possibly WikiTree as well as to a #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenealogy as organizational information technologies.

Thoughts on this? Might Claire by any chance be going, might you know? ...

I'd also like to invite you to visit Cuttyhunk Island in late August or early September when I hope to be also attending another genetic related conference Tweeted by Harvard and MIT Prof of Genetics'George Church https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1539621471416467462?t=6cyt37kQi3GK5-kOxx6N3w&s=19 in Boston, and regarding too a #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics.

Scott

Scott,

It's always fun to go to the areas where our ancestors once lived. I loved a trip I took to PEI in 2018 and hope to go again soon. And I can't wait to go to Raasay. So, enjoy your trip to Boulder.

In terms of solid information, I believe you'll find most info online. But in some cases, local libraries and record offices will hold materials that are not online - I found unique records on Mary Glynn, our great grandmother, in the Provincial Archives in St. John's. And I always like to visit graveyards to see headstones that may not be catalogued. On my next trip to PEI, I plan to meet with other researchers who are related to us, and visit graveyards that I missed on the first trip.

In fact, I'm in St. John's now (for meetings) and will be visiting with Barbara and Neil McLeod, our 3rd cousins once removed. I'll ask Neil to take a special Y DNA test even though I'm very confident the results will show the same as my results and those of our great half uncle Jim Alan MacLeod (see below).

As I think I've said before, I like the fact that Wikitree is publicly and freely available. What it lacks is Ancestry's massive database of DNA results, historical records, and searchable trees by lots of other people. I'll continue my work in Ancestry, MyHeritage and 23andMe.

And thanks for the invitation to Cuttyhunk. We'll see how our summer plans develop and I'll get back to you.

All the best,

Mark

Mark,

Thanks! I love reading about your new research successes, and that you connect with living relatives and regarding their DNA too. I may explore adding your new chart's knowledge to WikiTree if that's ok, and it would be fascinating to extrapolate from your and Barbara and her brother Neil's 1027/2019 photo here to realistic MacLeod and related phenotype Avatar Bots' Electronic Medical Records for humans and genealogy research iterations too.

Besides your great ideas for on the ground research in Boulder Colorado possibly,
do I recall you experimented with somehow getting gene samples from a cemetery in Roxbury MA with our ancestors in it? Do I also recall from Harvard Medical School Prof of Genetics'
George Church too that there's not much to work with from such dead ancestors' DNA (bones etc) ... but something nevertheless (re Church's use of adding extinct Mammoth species's DNA to living pachyderms for example)?

Check this out: and with the little Google Pegman Avatar too - - New explicit historical focus of Street View with time slider Maps Earth TensorFlowAI, which may be a game changer in some of these regards

... possibly re Google's 23andMe too -

Glad #StreetView with #TimeSlider Maps Earth TensorFlowAI Translate has EXPLICIT history focus & re a #RealisticVirtualEarthForHistory @WorldUnivAndSch What about #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenealogy #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics as organizational information technologies too?

RETWEETING -

While I really liked "playing" 'Who came before...?" with Broderbund genealogy software in the mid 1990s living in SF, on a very slow modem,

- and it was a shame that I lost all these ~400 names of ancestors, l recall, when my computer died, I think, but this was after I had uploaded this information to the web, either to the Broderbund or Family Tree or Genealogy .com website in the cloud (and I think I come across it now and then)

- I haven't found the same fun in any of the genealogy software that's come since, and newly with DNA testing, that you have ... maybe regarding 'identity' questions even from the software platforms themselves, and maybe regarding complexity questions regarding extrapolation of meaning from family DNA samples, and our current knowledge of what's possible and going on ... and I'm looking for this fun 😊 again ... with DNA genealogy sleuthing now, and maybe will even seek to create it in new ways in a WUaS platform somehow with Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records for example ...

And yet I do have fun brainstorming ideas for Genealogy search too nowadays ... BUT ...

the massive database of Ancestry .com with OUR ancestors' DNA TESTs is particularly interesting ... thanks in part to you, Mark ‼️

And yet I have also added my DNA test from Ancestry .com to WikiTree interestingly ... So maybe when all these platforms come together in an even more huge DNA database than Ancestry .com's  (WUaS is planning for all 7.9 billion people on planet each a Wikidata WIKIBASE Wikimedia Pin #) ... and by extension for OUR ancestors' DNA TESTs in brand new ways ... even in the WUaS Longevity Genetics' Institute and for educational opportunities... that will be great:)

Thanks again for your email, Mark, and it would be great to see you soon - on Cuttyhunk if it works out - and enjoy your summer!

All the best, your cousin, Scott

Here's my grandfather Alexander Chadbourne Brown - aka Sandy Brown - on Wikitree, who was born I think in Boulder, CO, but soon ended up in Vinton, Iowa, before heading to Exeter, NH, then Cambridge MA, and Cincinnati, Ohio, after his father, Alden Hugh Brown, a mining engineer, died in Colombia, and his mother died in giving birth to his youngest sister Martha Holway Brown Briscoe - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brown-92991 and my WikiTree page - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/MacLeod-2524 & also in ScottMacLeod.com, with further thoughts on this too :)

Some of this history here too -

"Sandy (ACB), Mary & Martha Brown's mother, Martha Holway Chadbourne (Alden's grandmother) had died in childbirth - in giving birth to Martha Holway Brown Briscoe (1909-1999)."

Thanks for your inspiration Mark!
