'To the Queen's Chamber' Poem,

Green Tortoise, Harbin "Walk In" Pass (in Friday, December 26, 2008 blog entry too)

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for your poem below. Greetings from an asylum place in western Pennsylvania, from California, after whistle-blowing about the SF Quaker Meeting, CPQM, PYM, FGC, etc., - and Canyon 94516. Am seeking to move back with MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch to a newly safe 670 Ridgecrest Road, PO Box 442 Canyon 94516 on 9/1/23 - with federal law and state of CA, PA, MA etc. law working effectively together.

Just found this poem I wrote with a French friend in 1995 on a cross-country Green Tortoise trip -

Cavern: 'To the Queen's Chamber' Poem, Green Tortoise, Harbin "Walk In" Pass

I found a poem which a French friend and I wrote at Carlsbad Caverns on a Green Tortoise trip in around 1995.

To the Queen's Chamber

We walked down, down into the earth.
The hole invited us, the dark surrounded us.
Hush.

C'est alors que le monde obscur que l'on croit endormi
s'est éveillé peu à peu sous nos pas.

{Then this dark world, seemingly asleep,
little by little woke up under our steps}.

Vast ceilings, moist world,
haunted, enchanted,
stalactite invite, stalagmite unite,
top and bottom merge
in the space underground.

Le silence n'est pas silence
son cristallin des gouttes d'eau
la roche millénaire respire ou pleure doucement.

{Silence is not silence
The crystallized sound of dripping water,
which stokes ancient breath,
or perhaps they cry softly}.

This cave, a sponge, collapsing from the inside
to create space, and silence, which sings internally,
absorbs water, makes shapes, lives, breathes.

We walked down into the living, breathing earth
and saw beauty.

We drank it in.

And I also found today a Harbin Hot Springs holistic retreat pass, from 1995, which I've scanned and posted here:

I may blog further about this today in my daily blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/poetry.

So glad I wrote these 4 books of poetry  -
https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1611072867361251331?s=20 - but interestingly, the above poem I wrote isn't in these, I just found this morning (as I looked through all 4 of my poetry books on paper). Will seek to add it to my forthcoming "Scott GK MacLeod Collected Poems, 1995 - "

Friendly regards, Scott

Poem: starfish skipping the mudskipper phase

View this email in your browser
Paul Jolly's Monthly Poetry Blog
Starfish

Why so many starfish on the beach?  Vague references to storms
and currents don’t satisfy.  My theory is aspiration: they want
to hopscotch past the mudskipper phase and catapult
directly to the rank of homo sapiens, sitting

on beach towels and drinking Coke through straws
from waxed paper cups. We sympathize: we remember
the mud skipper era with a wince and a joke
about how awful junior high – middle school -- was.

Humans who treasure intimacy with nature are tempted
to placate these aspirants.  Share the coke.  Make room
on the beach towel.  Offer sun screen.
I hold the grumpy view that helping doesn’t help.

If you have five opposable thumbs and no digits
to oppose, does that approximate toolmaking musculature?
A higher life form requires separate orifices
for food intake and waste expel.  Think dental

hygiene.  Think the brutal reflexes of online dating.
What about the aesthetic flourishes: armpit hair
(sprouted or shaved), toe nails (painted
or unpainted, clear and shiny or fungus-clouded).

You may call these trivial enhancements to the human animal,
but humans attend to small details.  I throw
the aspiring starfish back in the surf, with the whispered
encouragement, the hard truth: take the time to get it right.

Guillemette Renault (now Fenain) is my French friend from 1995, and am still in communication with her in France.

*
But can't find this poem in my 4 books of poetry, - only in the not yet published Collected Poems of Scott GK MacLeod

Ma,

Found a pretty poem I had written with Guillemette Renault, a French friend with whom I took a Green Tortoise trip together in around 1995,  in visiting Carlsbad Caverns in southern New Mexico, - and then went to Paris to spend Xmas with her for about 5 weeks - after some pictures of caverns popped up in Google Photos (maybe from this 1994 or 1995 trip actually, but dated 2004 ... so am not sure of date of pics) ... WHICH INSPIRED ME TO FIND THIS POEM IN ONE OF MY 4 BOOKS OF POETRY, on PAPER, ... but couldn't find it ... so it will eventually come out in my "Scott GK MacLeod's Collected Poems 2008 - " book ... This poem "To the Queen's Chamber" has some French language in it, and, finding the poem in a blog post from 2008, I created some Twitter posts about this poem and the Green Tortoise, and the Harbin Walk-In pass in the blog post (but first guessing that it was in my "Winding Road Rainbow" poetry book) so am creating some new Tweets about this re Collected Poems ... so glad I wrote these 4 books of poetry and with many poems about Harbin, about the Rainbow Gathering, about loving bliss elicitation, about traveling ... and here's one of the erroneous Tweets - "Cavern: 'To the Queen's Chamber' Poem, Green Tortoise, Harbin "Walk In" Pass~I found a poem which a French friend & I wrote @ Carlsbad Caverns on Green Tortoise trip in 1995

Am appreciating the new first 8 days of my billing cycle of fast internet speed with my new T-Mobile "Go 5G" plan (over a wifi hotspot on my smartphone to my MacBook Air laptop computer).

Hi Kendan, (Peter Norvig, All),

Greetings, How are you doing? Am appreciating the new first 8 days of my billing cycle of fast internet speed with my new T-Mobile "Go 5G" plan (over a wifi hotspot on my smartphone to my MacBook Air laptop computer).

Just received, however, my 80% notification of 'fast' internet speed usage, on my new "Go 5G" plan, again newly about 8 days into my billing cycle beginning on the 15th of this month, (and significantly more than the 3 days of "fast" internet after switching to the T-Mobile "Magenta" plan). If I run out of fast internet by the end of the day, F June 23, 2023, with about 22 more days of "slow" internet ahead, I may explore upgrading for another $5 / month to the T-Mobile "Go 5G Plus" plan (https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans ?). Would that give me unlimited "fast" internet speed throughout the ~30 days of the month?

(Am curious how the 'fast' internet will work in SE Massachusetts in a very remote location later this summer, over 14 miles of ocean. Am also curious what the next steps will be for real real time music-making to people's smartphone hot spots, - and in people's homes, and potentially for all 7.9 billion people on the planet  each a Wikidata PIN # from - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - and at the World University and School's Music School, planning all musical instruments ever, in all languages ever - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Music_School).

@WorldUnivAndSch would love to collaborate further with #TMobile ( and #Toyota Robotics and ProAce Electric camping vans as 2 autonomous systems, #GoogleAI ...)

@WorldUnivAndSch seeks to collaborate w #TMobile for a #RealRealTime #WUaSMusicSchool & musical jamming between 7.9 bill. people from #SmartphoneHotpots &100 person symphony orchestras w musicians in many countries https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Symphony_Orchestra_at_World_University_and_School -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_Broadband_Development -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Information_Communication_Technology ~

I may come in this afternoon to T-Mobile in East Liberty, Pgh PA, to ask further questions about this. Thank you.

Best regards,

Bruce,

What are some of your very favorite Piobaireachd - prettiest, most melodic, most beautiful?; Here's a further exploration of this -
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2023/06/alpine-rock-cress-endangered-in.html - with a list of most ancient Piobaireachd, I think.

Friendly greetings, Scott

PS
A JRR Tolkien reader and fan in my teens and twenties especially, this quote just came into my email, and with relevance for aging reversal and longevity genetic drug therapies emerging, and even to the value of continuing to bagpipe possibly into the centuries ahead regarding playing a musical instrument, as one of the best things there is to do -

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

J.R.R. Tolkien

One of the most beloved lines from J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy is this bit of wisdom, imparted from the wizard Gandalf to the young hobbit Frodo. In the first book, 1954’s “The Fellowship of the Ring,” Frodo inherits a cursed ring and realizes he must take a frightening journey to destroy it. After confiding to Gandalf that he wishes the task had fallen to someone else, the wizard reminds Frodo that no one gets to dictate what challenges they face. Rather than lamenting unavoidable hardships, time is better spent focusing on the choices within our control, and making our time on Earth (or Middle-Earth) meaningful.

What do you think?

Philosophical 'agency' questions are relevant here too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Agency - it seems to me :) .... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/philosophy ...

Hi Bruce,

Nice to hear from you. And I hope this email finds you well, and enjoying retirement fully in incredibly beautiful northern California and Eureka. What do you think of Desiderata in some of these regards - https://www.desiderata.com/desiderata.html?

Would you like to explore Scottish small piping ONLINE for duets in harmony (ie seconds) in the future sometime, especially when real real time music-making comes along?

Have created 2 SSP piping albums in 2022 and in 2020 (free) -

Honey Piobaireachd (2022)

Honey in the Bag (2020)

And here's an emerging excel spreadsheet of prettiest Piobaireachd to my ear: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aoyqEX0axA47tesdABfthYGKj_xzljddyR5FN1fisxc/edit?usp=sharing .

Bruce, if aging reversal and longevity genetic drug therapies (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/longevity) emerge and per the Harvard & MIT professor of genetics' George Church's heralding, retirement may be a very very long time! :) Am taking a wait and see approach - Church said in one video that perhaps the first aging reversal genetic drugs would emerge FDA approved by 2030 - but appreciating (piping and singing and piano-playing) music-making for the possible centuries' ahead. And see Agenda item 5 re asking George Church means by 'immortality' - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2023/06/bougainvillea-spectabilis-gu-guam.html and check out his video interview too.

Hoping to move back from an asylum place in PA from CA, to a newly safe Canyon 94516 on 9/1/23. Happy retirement in Eureka!

Heading on to play my evening Piobaireachd as I explore prettiest Ceol Mor further, As Aye,
Scott
