The proposed SANDBOX Act (S. 2750) would create a federal regulatory sandbox allowing AI developers temporary waivers from certain federal rules for up to 10 years to accelerate innovation

Bill allows agencies to waive rules for AI pilot projects
- Provide a detailed summary

The proposed SANDBOX Act (S. 2750) would create a federal regulatory sandbox allowing AI developers temporary waivers from certain federal rules for up to 10 years to accelerate innovation. Under the bill, AI companies could apply to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) for a waiver, provided they demonstrate the benefits outweigh risks and outline mitigation plans; however, participants would remain liable for their products. Supporters argue the bill prevents outdated regulations from hindering AI development and maintains U.S. competitiveness, while critics raise concerns about potential consumer protection issues and fairness in the application process. • The TAKE IT DOWN Act:
In May 2025, President Trump signed the bipartisan TAKE IT DOWN Act into law, which Cruz introduced in June 2024. The law targets non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) and AI-generated "deepfake" pornography. It requires online platforms to remove such content within 48 hours of being notified by a victim.
Data privacy
Cruz has expressed support for a uniform data privacy standard, but acknowledges that bipartisan agreement remains a barrier to passing a comprehensive bill. He has emphasized balancing privacy with innovation and warned against sweeping regulations that could harm smaller businesses

Scottish Independence?

Th October 9 2025

Will Scotland get independence in the 2020s?

"The SNP’s New Plan for Scottish Independence Explained"

AND

AI overview -

It is highly unlikely that Scotland will achieve independence in the 2020s. The path to independence is currently blocked due to a 2022 UK Supreme Court ruling, and the Scottish National Party (SNP) suffered significant losses in the 2024 general election, dampening its push for a referendum.
Obstacles to independence
  • Legal barriers: The UK Supreme Court ruled in November 2022 that the Scottish Parliament cannot hold an independence referendum without the UK Government's consent. The UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer as of mid-2025, has consistently refused to grant this consent.
  • Waning political momentum: The SNP's electoral strategy has faltered.
    • In the 2024 UK general election, the SNP lost 39 seats in Scotland, dropping to just nine MPs and falling behind Labour as the largest party in Scotland.
    • First Minister John Swinney acknowledged after the election that his party had "failed to convince people of the urgency of independence".
  • Lack of public urgency: Opinion polls indicate that independence is not a top priority for most Scots.
    • A March 2025 YouGov poll showed that only 14% of Scots considered independence a top priority, ranking well below health and the economy.
    • However, polls do show persistent support for independence, consistently around 45–50% of the electorate.
The current independence strategy
The SNP and First Minister John Swinney have continued to argue the case for independence and have called for another referendum.
  • Latest publication: On October 8, 2025, the Scottish government published a paper titled A Fresh Start with Independence, which lays out its proposals and rationale for leaving the UK.
  • Calls for a referendum: In September 2025, Swinney stated that the UK government should agree to a referendum if the SNP wins a majority in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.
  • Westminster's position: The UK government continues to reject demands for another referendum, arguing the 2014 vote was a "once-in-a-generation" event.
Potential scenarios beyond 2025
  • Stalled strategy: The SNP's independence strategy is stalled due to the legal blockage and their reduced electoral strength. The current approach of appealing to a majority in the Scottish Parliament or a majority of Scottish seats at a UK election has been repeatedly dismissed by Westminster.
  • Focus on the 2026 Scottish election: The 2026 Scottish Parliament election is the next key test for pro-independence parties. The SNP hopes a strong performance will revive its mandate for another referendum.
  • Possible long-term shift: Some poll data suggests that younger Scots are more likely to support independence than older generations, which could point to a long-term shift in attitudes. However, this is not a guarantee of a shift in the immediate future
