Gorse: Sunheart at Harbin Hot Springs passed away ... ('Heartsong' is his name in my book "Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin") * * * WUaS's planning for online IB diplomas in 200 countries' languages, and Fettes College IB high school, Edinburgh, Scotland, collaborations? ... but WUaS would probably do best in these endeavors if we could be 'UNDER THE WING' of an established IB school. Thank you. * The quest for this 'holy grail' of "realistic virtual place" goes on ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~ Am giving a talk about creating an actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs / earth for ethnographic & STEM research on 12/18/2020 at UC Berkeley, in the Anthropology department. :)

Can we bring Sunheart 'alive' again in 'avatar bot' form even, and articulating his Harbin knowledge and memories interactively with you or me, so talk and interact with him, as a first example of what might be possible in these regards? (See this "The Desidaerata" example -

Remembering you, Sunheart!

Sunheart passed away ...

Thanks so much for letting me know, Eric Richardson (at Harbin HR) ... wishing him all the best on his journey. Hope you are well as well, Eric. My condolences to you and to his Harbin friends. He made a ginormous contribution to my Harbin ethnographic book, "Naked Harbin Ethnography," for which I am very grateful. I blogged about him and meditation very recently (11/22/20) here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/11/cairngorms-national-park-virtual-harbin.html (and he's much in this blog - search on Sunheart or Heartsong) - "Sunheart, a Harbin friend (& main informant in my actual-virtual Harbin ethnography - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html ~ visit a realistic virtual earth here - http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook  ~)  ... " I'll explore his FB page with the memories you shared, Eric - thank you for telling me.

Jaima, SunheartSunheart Sunheart !

There are lots of memories and observations of Sunheart in my "Naked Harbin Ethnography," and among Harbinites.

Here are 10 references to audio interviews with Heartsong in my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" ~ http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html ~ book, which if synthesized digitally somehow could allow one to start to re-create an interactive Sunheart Avatar Bot even - (and eventually in Google Street View even?):

Himanen,

I never knew his birth last name, although I think Colin  was his first name, (and he may have had some Scottish ancestors), and he grew up in Ohio, where his father was a medical doctor, and his mother was involved in the Presbyterian church. He was in crypto in the army in the mid-1960s and stationed in Germany, and traveled in the late 1960s partly interested in Transcendental Meditation teachings of the Maharishi ... he came to Harbin Hot Springs around 1980 ... Sunheart, SunheartSunheart was his name. I never knew his birth last name, and this as an anthropologist, or as a line from a novel even ... and is somehow fitting of possibly Sunheart's humbleness ... missing him ... I last saw him in the town of St. Helena, in Napa, at his invitation to meet there and not in Middletown, about 6 months after the major Valley Fire of September 12th and 13th 2015. Sunheart was brilliant, and good and navigated the challenges of Harbin culture remarkably!

JOINING - 30th November – Fettes virtual events – St Andrew’s Day

Fettes College (IB) high school in Edinburgh, Scotland (1977-78) ...

WUaS's planning for online IB diplomas in 200 countries' languages, and Fettes College IB collaborations?

Karen (Houston) Jones:

  1. I will speak to the Head, Helen Harrison regarding your questions below. Please give us some patience with the provision of a reply.
  • Are there any plans to move Fettes further online  due to Covid-19, and post Covid-19?
  • And might there be opportunities between Fettes and World University and School to collaborate at the I.B level in this in a parallel way?

Dear Karen, and Fettes Community (and George and Andrew),

Thank you so much for your emails.

1
There have been about 10-20 great ideas I've come across for country dancing at home during Covd-19 on Twitter, and I've re-Tweeted most of them, but haven't aggregated, or archived, them yet into a single Twitter post, eg - re like this one at the top of The Open Band (Berkeley), which I post to:
The Monday #ScottishCountryDancing class in Berkeley at St. Clement's is cancelled for the foreseeable future due to concerns about novel #CoronavirusCOVID19  #DanceScottish ~Explore online: https://twitter.com/dancingforth/status/1284416503492816896?s=20 >https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scottish_Country_Dancing

Let's stay in touch about a #FilmTo3D App from smartphone - https://twitter.com/hashtag/FilmTo3D?src=hashtag_click - into a single realistic virtual earth for libraries - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForLibraries?src=hashtag_click - with time, in a single #RealisticVirtualEarth.

3
Am very glad George Preston is so involved with Old Fettesians' Archives ... if #AgingReversal via genetic engineering is realized, perhaps this will indeed be a long involvement - https://twitter.com/hashtag/WUaSAgingReversal?src=hashtag_click - esp. as industry gets involved. Will we be still communicating in 500 years? :)

4
Sounds like an interesting ethnomusicological set of questions about how "Blind Faith" (with Eric Clapton, Stever Winwood, Ginger Baker and Rick Grech) has been heard over the past 50 years by Fettes' students, for Old Fettesians' interviews even, and potentially out of the OFA office ... could a University of Edinburgh anthropology or ethnology student focus such questions, and a related ethnomusicological project, and online even?

5
Thank you - regarding further online developments of Fettes during Covid-19.
I can share with you, too, WUaS's planning for online IB diplomas - and even with #WUaSHomeRobotics with the Scratch programming language in an innovative way - in these regards as well - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme - and in all ~200 countries and in their official languages. WUaS is very CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric, and for high school too - https://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/ - and is seeking, as a consequence, reimbursement from all ~200 countries' departments of education, what the tuition would be to attend Fettes, for example, per student per year, or even to attend a high achieving private high school in the US, but WUaS would probably do best in these endeavors if we could be 'UNDER THE WING' of an established IB school. Thank you.

Message from old Auld Reekie (Edinburgh)

Scott

I received a message "Do not reply" from cyber space last night thanking me for arranging the virtual 150 celebrations. These thanks I have filed away for posterity, but I let you know that I can't Zoom, never twitter and shudder at the thought of showing my Face in any book.

Great to know that you pipe on the cliffs of Santa Barbara every morning.

Although I introduced computing in the year after you left (with an 8 Kb Commodore PET in my study in Ki) and continued until 3 years ago for the OFs, I am radidly losing the ability to keep up with the present complexities. I keep asking the Development Department if they cannot make a one click entry to their wonderful, informative ever changing web site! I can only go in circle around their maze!

At any rate bagpipes are not yet computerised! Those were the days - good to know you thrive.

Good wishes. GDCP

Dear George,

Glad you enjoyed it! Am beginning to extend Google Meet video conference meetings to old friends - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/bluebell-barleria-barleria-cristata.html - like the Ehrmanns from 1966-1972 in New Haven, Connecticut (Hamden) when both of our fathers were on the faculty at Yale University, and it would be indeed great to see you again, somehow!

Am just 'giving birth' to my first Scottish Small Pipes' album, "Honey in the Bag," - and on bandcamp of all places (at first ... then maybe to CD, for the physicality of it all  ) ... Have you ever gone to camp with a musical band? :) And greetings from the SF Bay Area ... I think we saw each other last after I had moved from UC Santa Barbara to matriculate in the School of Celtic and Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh to study virtual St. Kilda (Hirta) as a nascent expression of online place (a bit out of the box for the discipline of ethnology, theoretically:). The quest for this 'holy grail' of "realistic virtual place" goes on ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~
Am giving a talk about creating an actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs / earth for ethnographic & STEM research on 12/18/2020 at UC Berkeley, in the Anthropology department. :) Let's make it!

Am looking toward where the ease of computing via using Google / Alphabet becomes even easier & better with brainwave headsets ... at least for basic brain research, and from the Harbin warm pool even, or even especially from our home bathtubs.

Know of any good computerized Scottish drumming programs, that I could then code further into Ginger Baker inspired drum interactive tracks to play and improvise with gradually on the Scottish small pipes?

Are you an appreciator of Cleesian humor - https://twitter.com/JohnCleese ?

Best wishes,
Scott
This is what I've been up to in recent years, even as I continue to grow CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch with baby steps ~
https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity ~ 5th book due out (4th books of poetry) hopefully before Xmas! :)

I am on Twitter these days, but I don't see you, George, posting yet too much to the Fettes Community - https://fettescommunity.org/feed (I think people would love to learn of your thinking - thank you for your email:). And greetings to Fettes' Heads' Helen Harrison and Karen Jones, - and glad the 3 St. Andrew's Day celebrations were recorded and are the Fettes Community feed now, since I attended one beginning at 4 am PT at 4:20 a bit by accident, and didn't glean any insights into the Fettes IB program, and I missed the beginning of the other one I attended with Karen, and Craig Marshall (greetings, as well!) due to trying to attend an online University of Edinburgh Medical School Debate (re World Univ & Sch Medical Schools in 200 countries and their languages too!:), which wasn't accessible after all, and for which apparently the video will emerge :)

George,

Thanks for your email. Good to hear from you. This - https://twitter.com/ishii_mit_BOT/status/1335509457384603651?s=19 - in a way is the idea for Scotland World University and School as well - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects. How to facilitate creative Scots' innovation with a CC-4 MIT OCW-centric online free to students' education, with University and high school IB Degrees, as well as wiki (and potentially to in Scottish languages if helpful for degrees? (I ask this in a Friendly sense too).

Best wishes,
Scott
