Hi Susan, Nelson, and All,

Thanks for inquiring about a video of my talk on Friday, Susan - http://tourismstudies.org/news_archive/MacLeod2020.htm. Am seeking to get a realistic virtual Harbin happening soon ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~ ...

I just did a little research and have done 5 UC Berkeley Anthropology Tourism Studies' talks in recent years 2012-2020, which I just updated to my  CV: https://goo.gl/JZheSb
(search on 'TSWG'), BELOW, and added talks here, to my "Doubleday's Hummingbird ..." blog post regarding this talk (12/2020)  - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/doubledays-hummingbird-cynanthus.html - re - http://tourismstudies.org/news_archive/MacLeod2020.htm. I think I've found all the TSWG announcements, except from 2018, "Harbin & Avatar Bots: Robotics & Tourism," regarding further access. Mahlon, any idea whether this TSWG announcement for my talk might be available? It was postponed from the spring to the autumn, and I can't find the announcement when I search for it.

A few of my TSWG talks have videos, if you'd like to see, in a scholarly way, Susan, where my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' project has come from, and where it's heading, and most of them have slides (except from 2012, where I'm hypothesizing I didn't use GDocs' slides).

Susan, I'm skeptical that a video from my TSWG presentation on 12/18/20 will be forthcoming (unless I'm able to upload my video talk in its 4 file formats somewhere, where one of the files is enormous), but creating TSWG videos into the future could be something to plan for beginning in January for the TSWG (and the simplest way could be via a new TSWG Youtube channel, and via UC Berkeley, with TSWG talks happening either in Zoom or Youtube; TSWG Zoom to a new TSWG Youtube channel could be best).

Best, Scott

I'm glad to say I found some slides from my Friday, November 2, 2012 TSWG talk, in a PPT slide presentation on my computer, uploaded them to GDocs's slides (in World Univ & Sch's G Suite for Education), clicked "File / Save the as Google Slides" and voila - https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1i7qIJxfuu3IqlfGwyj84lxkt1GhW4OSTinqMdTKyzRE/edit?usp=sharing ...

I've already added these new pictures only pretty much, slide link to my CV: https://goo.gl/JZheSb - and will update other websites too with time.

Am sending the TSWG video from Friday, 12/18/20 -

SGK MacLeod TSWG 12 18 2020 Creating a Realistic Virtual Earth Harbin for Tourism

but since it's over 25 MB big, its taking very long to convert into a GDoc file; I will send the converted GDoc file when it's done.

Am wondering if and hoping that I can post it publicly and newly from GDocs for anyone to stream (like a Youtube video). Will let you know too.

Best, Scott

Here's the TSWG video from Friday, 12/18/20 -

SGK MacLeod TSWG 12 18 2020 Creating a Realistic Virtual Earth Harbin for Tourism

It was 653 MB, a MP4 file format, well over the 25 MB limit in this email account, and took just under 2 hours to upload to Google Drive.

Best, Scott

Hi Susan, Nelson and All,

Thanks for your email just now, Nelson, In the very near future, I'm going to try to send you a very large video file from my 12/18/20 TSWG talk, which worked, when I just glanced at it. I'm not sure it'll get through due to size, but I'll try.

Here's the TSWG video from Friday, 12/18/20, and a new link, and it now works and easily viewable -

SGK MacLeod TSWG 12 18 2020 Creating a Realistic Virtual Earth Harbin for Tourism

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rjAgHoN1uE4JcuGPiVnvDibpA0Fd4StA/view

I've added this now working URL here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/doubledays-hummingbird-cynanthus.html - and here - CV: https://goo.gl/JZheSb - so far. I may create a similar AUDIO streaming file, from the Zoom files' recording file formats, for low bandwidth situations.

Quite a remarkable system of linkages, regarding TCP / IP, transmission control protocol / internet protocols , that make it possible to create and view such videos, and create group video conversations, in brand new ways.

Am up to 830 blog posts in the 'virtual Harbin' blog label here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/virtual%20Harbin - in my daily blogging (much about writing MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS into existence:).

Now why can't we head into virtual Harbin right now from home ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook  ~ and soak, and do / write / EWVWG ethnography at the e-same time? ... and simply hang out in the pool area socially, as well as head into the pools some times?

Thank you, Scott

Hi, Nelson, Dean, All,

What's happening with collaborative ethnography, and in STEM / the social sciences, and humanities, too, at UC Berkeley, and on all 10 of the University of California campuses even, now virtually? This creation of a realistic virtual earth via ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy is about collaboration (with UC Berkeley video talk at bottom here) - .https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/doubledays-hummingbird-cynanthus.html. And this 12/18/2020 UC Berkeley Anthropology Tourism Studies' Working Group is about this - http://tourismstudies.org/news_archive/MacLeod2020.htm (and also for approaches to tele-robotic surgery, for example, which will involve much precision, robotics, and remarkable mapping technologies) . Thanks.

Best, Scott

Exploring a digital humanities' approach to a realistic virtual earth in Google Street View

M, December 21, 2020

Dear Jean and Hugh, Lillian and Jane,

In this blog post from last January 5, 2020 - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/01/mudpot-exploring-digital-humanities.html
 - I inquire about the digital humanities and your work, and am writing again to ask about some of your thoughts further about this. Having just given a UC Berkeley Anthropology Tourism Studies' talk on Friday, regarding text-in-the-sidebar of Google Street View too, it could be fun to collaborate! (And welcome to your new home soon, Jean!:)

January 5, 2020
'Dear Jean and Hugh,

Very nice to see you over the holidays. And Happy New Year - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html ! Did you have a good holiday? Welcome to Miami, Jean (tomorrow, and tomorrow, and ... :)!

Hugh, at the brunch on 1/1/20 (at Ann's in Pgh), your mother suggested communicating a bit about your new director-ship (https://humanities.as.miami.edu/about-the-center/letter-from-the-director/index.html) position in the Humanities' Program at the University of Miami (https://humanities.as.miami.edu/about-the-center/staff-bios/hugh-thomas/index.html), - and brainstorming-wise, potentially about exploring a digital humanities' approach to a realistic virtual earth in Google Street View. How best to make these very easy and useful - and in exploring collaboration with Google even? Could we begin, brainstorming-wise, with your mother writing her memoirs in the next 2 months in conversation with you in the SideBar of Google Street View? And in conversation with the University of Miami's Humanities' Program?

Jean, am curious about the potential to write one's memoirs in the sidebar of Google Street View, and potentially to add photos/videos to the main part of Street View too, and then to print to book from there. This would also be useful and potentially as easy as in a Word / GDocs' document - and for students of history, and anthropology, and the social sciences, too. ...'  (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/01/mudpot-exploring-digital-humanities.html).

Jean, how is your memoir project going, and even regarding photos?

My TSWG (Tourism Studies' Working Group at UC Berkeley) talk is here, in video too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/doubledays-hummingbird-cynanthus.html - but I only touch on text-in-the-sidebar a bit. I think however a memoir focus could be super in developing Google Street View with text further. Thoughts, ideas, questions, suggestions?

Glad to be celebrating Xmas with family and friends in video conferencing, and newly bringing family together due to these information technologies, and now with the Covid-19 pandemic, - curiously and happily (i.e. it'll be nice to see Sandy on Xmas, since he hasn't come back to Pittsburgh for years)!

Glad too to be bringing my first musical album to a first conclusion. It's called "Honey in the Bag" and I'm playing the Scottish Small Pipes - https://scottmacleodhoneyinthebagscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com/ (am appreciating bandcamp a lot - if Geoff might be interesting in exploring this) - http://scottmacleod.com/piping.htm .

Lillian, thoughts also about writing, in a new way, in Google Street View, with text in the sidebar? (Am thinking this might revolutionize publishing - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - and at the WUaS Press planned in all 7,117 known living languages with Google Translate, and re science - with Street View at the cellular and atomic levels - and social science publishing especially. )

Merry Holy-Days, and Happy New Year! Shall we find a time to get together in video conferencing over the holidays?

Warm regards, Scott
