        Hi Scott,

Sorry to miss you at the event - I will not be attending.

For me, still doing mostly things online except for hikes with family.

Will keep technology scouting activities going, and  believe the WUaS vision will be realized before the end of the decade.

Check out this long - but good - NVIDIA keynote video - it shows realtime language translations at about minute 20.

but haven't watched the whole video. Have cancelled, as you may have seen, going to the SRI event, but if I do hear back positively from Stanford itself, I may go to this in-person event after all.

Digital twins' idea is great ... and blogged today a bit in response to some Google Business questions about realistic virtual avatars, and avatar bot electronic medical records for all 7.9 billion people on the planet and for genetics too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2022/03/nanda-devi-mountain-in-india.html - which may take longer than 8 years to build out ... but may get some matriculating classes for Bachelor, PhD, Law, MD and IB degrees in each of all 200 countries before 2030 ... Thanks for your support, and scouting, and thinking, and champion-ing!

Am not sure if WUaS OCW.MIT.EDU-centric Sloan Business degrees, both PhD and Bachelor might be a form of IT scouting for you and ISSIP, but they're in the works, and for speakers in and of all ~200 countries' languages.

        Thanks, Scott

        to me

THanks Scott - my tech scouting for WUaS is focused on language translation technology like in the NVIDIA keynote, as well as AI technology for building coaches and collaborators for learners.  Helping learners figure out what they want to learn, how to learn it, and then how to apply it to give life meaningful while contributing to the wellbeing of all and the planet.  For example, but really any technology that I think might help WUaS in any of hundreds of ways, I will keep my eyes open for, and send your way when I see them.  Thanks, Jim

        Jim,

Thanks for posting Jensen Huang's inspiring NVIDIA keynote to Twitter initially, then sharing it in email.

While Jensen touched on, with NVIDIA"a Omniverse, much that Google is  envisioning with Street View with time slider Maps Earth TensorFlowAI Translate, and he mentioned Google's IT a few times,
        - and that Google TensorflowAI focuses on perception ... https://research.google/teams/perception/ - he didn't explore how NVIDIA & Google's systems might work together for projects outside the purview of NVIDIA & its Omniverse. World University and School is seeking to develop 7.9 billion Physical-Digital Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records (and for genetics, aging reversal, genetic engineering revolution drug therapies emerging, and even genetic recombination & replication in all species plus), and Robotics, and tele-robotic surgery (in ~200 planned WUaS's Medical Schools and Teaching hospitals (and regarding even questions of human and other species's CONSCIOUSNESS, and psychology/psychiatry, which get into questions of both PERCEPTION and THINKING (not only problem solving), on some accounts, by potentially AI systems. And while Jensen's talk explores AI for cells and molecules, (Holoscan I think), I'm curious how to bring the two complementary approaches together in a myriad of ways,- and technically, hardware -wise, as well as AI -wise, .- and synergistically (re the course I teach on 'Soc, Info Tech and the Global University' - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html, and book I'll write), and in new World University and School ways.

NVIDIA's new and different approaches to AI, and their history since around 1993 (and since Jensen has been its Head since around that time it seems), potentially complementing Google's, create remarkable opportunities for research academically too, which neither of them are focused on, not being universities, and not seeking to generate wiki and linguistic STEM knowledge too, for example.

But the Nvidia talk creates a whole new palette of technology AI opportunities, and potentially in conversation with Google's and your AI knowledge too Jim.

Thanks again so much for your technology scouting in some of these regards especially.

        Thanks, Scott

        PS
Jensen's Oregon roots comes through (but less so his Taiwanese roots, and his Kentucky Oneida roots, the latter of which, I think Harbin Hot Springs draws on, although I don't think the Oneida community words are in my 'Naked Harbin Ethnography' book) ... to my 'ear' or hearing.

        PPS
Wikipedia has a reference adding tool ... but I stay away from this organization (due to some past very unethical 'attacks'), but am somewhat in touch with Wikidata (via Lydia Pintscher), Wikipedia's backend structured knowledge database in 300 languages founded by Denny Vrandecic (also in touch with, and lexicographically) ...

and hope a voice adding reference tool emerges. This stellar Nvidia talk makes me appreciate having moved slowly in developing the WORLD UNIV AND SCH WIKIs with group knowledge generation, since it's so instructive.

        PPPS
World University and School is currently focusing on longevity genetics, but also on 7.9 billion people each a Wikidata Pin#, and for even potentially UBI EXPERIMENTS TO create a very widespread main cryptocurrency, and combined with building communities of people, wiki teaching and learning, in all 7151 living languages (and jobs careers too) - but also abolitionally, on protecting people with AI machine learning, law and law enforcement in all 200 countries. NVIDIA'S ~22,000 employees, and Google's ~140,000 employees, and their great complementary approaches to AI and hardware, and planning as companies, are something for WUAS to build on, hiring-wise, but Work World University and School is also taking a longevity Genetics' (research) and planning for the very long term. Your experience from ~100 year old IBM, and culturally, is very germane in these regards too. Interesting to see the last words on my Google Smart TV from Jensen Huang's inspiring NVIDIA keynote talk, before turning it off, we're "I am a protector" ... re perhaps the I AM AI theme through out ...

I haven't heard back yet from either friend, who knows what's going on, Ed Smyth MD, or the district 7 California state senator's office in these regards too.

        Jim Spohrer

        6:19 AM (4 hours ago)
        to me
Thanks Scott - very happy you enjoyed the keynote.  Your WUaS vision will hopefully have most of the needed technology infrastructure by around 2026-2028 I suspect.  By then, I hope, each of us will have an early stage "digital twin" on our smartphones that  can help us learn any topic and (importantly) from our language and cultural perspective.   Check out this paper on "digital twins" by a group from Italy/Europe:

BiblioF2022 - Furini M, Gaggi O, Mirri S, Montangero M, Pelle E, Poggi F, Prandi C (2022) Digital Twins and Artificial Intelligence as Pillars of Personalized Learning Models. Communications of the ACM, April 2022, Vol. 65 No. 4, Pages 98-104. URL: https://cacm.acm.org/magazines/2022/4/259419-digital-twins-and-artificial-intelligence-as-pillars-of-personalized-learning-models/fulltext
        Video: https://vimeo.com/681877425

So we have about 4-6 years to prepare, and figure out what to do when it happens. People will be able to learn to do something, and share it with others so other people can more quickly learn to do it.  The super-power of humans is our social learning abilities - we even have mirror-neurons to help us learn from each other faster.  Our "digital twins" will help us learn even faster from each other, building off innate capabilities of people.  Once you know something new, the challenge is often how to put it into practice to create more meaningful interactions with others, to apply resources (e.g., knowledge) for the benefit of another - that is the definition of "service" ....  and the focus of ISSIP is on "service innovations" which improve win-win interaction and change processes in business and society.   Service systems like people, businesses, and nations, all are types of responsible actors/entities learning to invest (systematically) in becoming better future versions of themselves.   Service innovations are not just technology innovation, though they often depend on new technologies.  Service innovations can also be new business models (value propositions), new skills or human values in people, new knowledge and models of the world, new technological of environmental infrastructure, new types of information objects - standards, measures, language, laws, norms, etc.  We do not yet have a good typology for types of service innovations that improve win-win interactions and change.  So much work remains to be done.   ISSIP is a community of practice, in the form of a non-profit professional association, where people can learn and share ideas about service innovation ,and contribute to the development of service science.   Service innovations should really be called service systems innovations.  Again, much, much work remains to be done.

        Thanks, -Jim

        Jim,

Great to hear from you, and thanks again for your emails, and thinking of me - and sharing further your ISSIP thinking, regarding 'service science systems' innovations' ... .

Thanks too for the article - will check it out. Will we be able to edit our own genome on this digital assistant (like adding Axolotl body decoration around our necks, or healing a right ear 'eustachian tube dysfunction' since the 1960s and perhaps originated in a Saturday morning Yale swimming program, and a far left left eye 'scarring' from the 2nd dose of the non-epidemic, non- FDA approved vaccine, I hypothesize, and aging eyes, with rejuvenate bio approaches, or will I be to 'whack a mole' on medial side of my 3rd toe on left foot, I wonder, with our avatar bot electronic medical records as our virtual self, in this Physical-Digital realistic virtual earth with avatar bots' unfolding (which could be construed as Digital Twinning too)? Or will we also be able to talk with a Stanford philosopher Richard Rorty, for learning in conversation, or a George Alexander MD, a psychiatrist MD, and family friend, now deceased, or similar, for learning in conversation too, and 'AI'-wise?? ... I wonder too? ). Appreciating your service science thinking too.

Hi Ma, Ed, Pin, Alden, All,

Glad to be in communication with Jim Spohrer this morning, Ma ... And I mentioned in the PPPPPS not having heard anything from the district 7 California state senator's office regarding the possibility of living in Canyon valley on the ridge again, - and to read his positive email reply in general. (And he knows some IBMer people in, from, connected with Canyon).

Nothing specific, but gives me some hope that I might not have to seek asylum on the east coast or in Europe.

Glad too to leave Sandy out of these emails and hope he gets better soon.

        Fond regards,
        Scott

        PPPPPS
Just extended lease for a third time, for a month, in this 'safe house' north of Berkeley, and may be seeking asylum on the east coast or in Europe, even, if the state of California and federal government legal processes are not working, and regarding a safe house in Canyon 94516 possibly. I haven't heard back yet from either friend, who knows what's going on, Ed Smyth MD, or the district 7 California state senator's office in these regards too.

        PPPPPPS
Thanks, Jim, for the heads up in this Nvidia CEO keynote talk

        Hi Scott,
Have not been following biomedical advances - but I know they are coming on strong as well.

Yes, once we have digital twins, it will be possible at some point to have conversations with people who are dead - via the digital twin.  It creates all kinds of issues around property and identity, which will take decades to sort out.  I suspect it may be 2100 before all that is sorted out - ownership of digital twin identities, etc.   So I would still put that in the realm of science fiction, since it is so far away still...

        Thanks, -Jim

        Jim,

Thanks again for Jenson's video. Regarding Digital Twins, I am curious about questions of agency (intentional action, or loosely 'free will'), and what happens when our Avatar selves acquire agency, which was possibly hinted at regarding Jenson's avatar in the keynote. There's a blog label for avatar agency in daily blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/avatar%20agency - and if our avatars gain agency (with AI or digital 'consciousness' per Google's TensorFlowAI?) ... will we then be talking about Physical Twins of Free Avatars in the 2100s, and will our Physical Twins also make  physical robots out of themselves, so with agency as well (all science fiction now, yet philosophically regarding agency - https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/agency/ - which idea I also learned of from friend George Alexander MD, from his Yale philosophy course possibly, - and I also learned about Richard Rorty from George, regarding his 1979 book "Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature" - and mind-bender, and philosophy-bender in the academic discipline of Philosophy, too ...).  In a realistic virtual earth with avatar bot electronic medical records and realistic avatar bots of all individuals, and all species, potentially ... and for evolutionary biology - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForEvolutionaryBiology?src=hashtag_click and  https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForEvolution?src=hashtag_click - especially, how will such Digital Twins evolve biologically 'in-world,' or 'in-earth,' after mating, and how will such possibly emerge as physical Twins of Free Avatars?

Glad to have just watched the Stanford Medicine talk - https://twitter.com/jonc101x/status/1508892143187898376
        - and to have seen and heard that people are beginning to gather in person to this series of colloquia that next week, and that next week, it would be in person. Glad too to have received a Stanford Center for Digital Health (CDH) newsletter email - https://mailchi.mp/92118e70277e/cdh-march-newsletter-decoding-digital-health?e=a1429aac2c - right after attending this colloquium, and after emailing Bob Harrington MD (chairman of Stanford Medicine) the other day about the SRI meeting (while BCC-ing you).

        Thanks, Scott
Was Jensen Huang a student of former Stanford President John Hennessy, now chairman of the Alphabet Board I wonder?

I blogged about some of these ideas today here too -

Digital twins of biomedical advances (so NVIDIA chips:) too will be fascinating in a realistic virtual earth, and the great finale to the NVIDIA keynote talk pointed to this, but also in creative and musical ways!

Property (creative commons' law will help in some spheres) and identity (explore this a bit in the course I teach) ... and I concluded my last talk in UC Berkeley Anthropology on December of 2020 with wondering about bringing my friend and main informant Sunheart Sunheart of Harbin (who had died earlier that autumn I heard) alive (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/doubledays-hummingbird-cynanthus.html?m=0) ... and which could possibly make any perpetrators of possible 'foul play' uneasy even ...

        Great, Jim!

Am appreciating the history of the social gospel - something Richard Rorty talked some of - and regarding abolition too (of the wrongful buying and selling of people, one definition of slavery) ... and after my experiences at the SF Quaker Meeting, and Pacific Yearly Meeting, and Friends General Conference, and with British Quakers too regarding the Non-theist Friends' email list (and having become a member of the RSOF in 2004 in Edinburgh Scotland while studying at the University of Edinburgh), have learned that Quaker process (of Monthly Business Meetings, for example, a unit of organization, are potentially somehow corruptible, or cooptable ... ) ... and regarding law breaking too ... where conscientious objection to war, and the causes of war, can then become a risky process ...  and am still living in a 'safe house' north of Berkeley. As you may read i-n today's blog (in an email to my mother, and Ed, Larry, Alden, Sid, and other friends ... regarding also you knowing some IBM people in Canyon), it made me a bit optimistic to hear from you this morning, having not yet heard back from the district 7 California state senator's office, and my friend Ed Smyth MD in quite some days, and potentially in seeking asylum after April 30th . ... My 30 day lease is up then (3rd lease), and I hope state of California law and US federal government law are working together to 'clean up' Canyon too (and Harbin Hot Springs) ... but am not privy to these possible developments ... so I am a bit in a liminal state, and may end up moving the WUaS Corporation (which just paid taxes for the 4th year about 4 weeks ago) ... to New England, or Europe, and out of Contra Costa county (district 7). Please stay tuned. and thanks for the emails.

Thanks for the book recommendation too. Great to be in communication! And thank you!

How much could videoing the patient, MD, and hospital team, from Admission, correlate with the auto-log, and the EHR, for data for further approaches to improving care? How much could videoing the patient, MD, and hospital staff, from Admission, correlate with the auto-log, and the EHR, for data for further approaches to improving care? Does this happen already in some Emergency Rooms?

(I'm thinking too of video potentially into a realistic virtual earth for hospitals, with avatar bot electronic medical records, text in the sidebar of Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlowAi and Translate, - at the cellular and molecular levels too). Thanks for your excellent presentation, Christian!
