Hi VOLCANO,

Good to hear from you, Mwende - and regarding your navigating your way to a free Bachelor's degree in computer science, especially, much as a MIT student would do so, over 4 years!

As I begin to explore this "CS First with Google at World Univ & Sch" course further as a teacher, I see that the CC-4 (creative commons' 4 licensed) free 'CS First' "Multi-Day Units" later on can involve around eight 1 hour lessons (learned over 2 weeks possibly?), and be about topics you might be really interested in specifically.  As you begin learning to code in Scratch further with this course, do you want to explore doing about three one-hour lessons per week, over ~15 weeks, and for 3 credit units at WUaS for the whole course, toward a free online 4 year Bachelor's degree at free CC-4 ocw.mit.edu-centric World Univ & Sch?  Also what would you enjoy focusing on in this course from your own life in Cameroon? (Do you live in Yaounde? Or where do you live in Cameroon?) And what would you enjoy doing with your computer science degree too? Here are some possibilities for focusing in this course on what you enjoy in the beginning:

Sports

Music & Sound

Game Design

And what is it about Computer Science and getting a Bachelor's degree in this that particularly interests you? What would you like to create, if you learn the language of creation with computers with Scratch, then with the computer language of Python, then even with the language for example of building playfully and creatively Lego Robotics? And then later the language of CC-4 MIT OCW courses (ocw.mit.edu), and with their remarkable depth of Computer Science resources?

Would creating a journal or story with the Scratch programming language of your journey in studying for a free CS WUaS Bachelor's degree, and perhaps sharing this story or journey with your fellow Cameroonians be cool, fun and interesting for you?

Would coding in Scratch almost as a musical duet, with another person, or as conversation between two people, be interesting to you?

Did you also know that you can create your own Scratch programming account at MIT - scratch.mit.edu/ - and here's one of mine - https://scratch.mit.edu/users/helianth/ - even with beginning coding of Lego Robotics with the Scratch language eg https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/386012815/!

As part of bringing to a close what you've learned in this week's 'CS First with Google at World Univ & Sch' course, do you want to create a scratch.mit.edu account, and creatively explore further ,and code another Scratch project, coming into conversation with what you made in "Characterization"?

Looking forward to learning what you think about these questions and ideas.

Cheers, Scott

Home schooling thinking (ahead of having a family)

Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@gmail.com>

9:04 AM (4 hours ago)

to Pin, Janie, Ed, Claudia, Larry, Joan, John, Ann, Alden, Sandy

Ma, All,

Curious kind of day yesterday in ongoing self-quarantine, having just played the Piob~air~eachd "Lament for the Old Sword" on Scottish Small Pipes (with Stuart's playing) before going to bed - and while I went out yesterday to Canyon 94516 to check the mail (for Work World University and School), it was interesting to hike at the Huckleberry Regional Preserve trail in the mist and near-rain, on a trail a bit like a mud skating rink at times, where quite a few people I passed shared friendly greetings, somewhat atypically for the Bay Area in my experience.  Was it the Misty weather somehow informing this 'solidarity' re inclement weather conditions (being reminded culturally of Portland Oregon's friendliness when I was a student at Reed College in the early '80s). Is the Non-epidemic coronavirus acting as an off-on switch too for CO2 production - an OFF switch over the last 2 years with everyone staying at home - and so bringing back more moisture to the dry SF BAY AREA hypothetically? How to meet a life partner, who might even be a MD, and seeking to begin a family, in this opening emerging from self-quarantine, and as I wonder if I could move into PO Box 442 Canyon 94516 (it's pretty small:) - not sure about 670A Ridgecrest Rd Canyon - from the 'safe house' I'm in now. Strong energies among some of the people on this trail too, and strong energies in the SF BAY AREA in general at times (this is not British Isles' culture:) ... Seeking a friend in a flourishing culture, however (which the '70s were for me) but think we may still be playing out lockdown or self-quarantine aka even SELF ROUND UP (as in the Pendleton Roundup Rodeo - putting animals in corrals??? - where round ups were also a thing for law enforcement of the usual suspects when an action like robbing a bank might be going down ~150 years ago in the US west). An educational or teaching and learning opportunity (re Work World University and School too) of civility - aka culture?

And are we seeing a tectonic plate shift in California culturally, post non-epidemic non-SARS' self-quarantine further - and legally too (re Work World University and School's planned Law Schools, in all ~200 countries, online) ... as I wait to see where I might be living in the spring anew, and due to whistleblowing in Canyon, about Stanford, UC BERKELEY, Berkeley Law, the SF QUAKER MEETING and other organizations too ...  (having called the Moraga police twice in September 2020 about illegal break-ins in Canyon, with brown goop evidence on the floor once while I was sleeping, and in my bedroom of a two room house-let), - possibly moving out of this 'safe house' north of Berkeley? My friend Ed Smyth MD (above) kindly had a very beautiful book sent to me from a Grass Valley / Nevada City CA bookseller named Thomas Fitzsimmons, someone with the same last name as the Harvard Dean of Admissions, William Fitzsimmons, and titled "California's Wild Gardens: A Guide to Favorite Botanical Sites" (1997, edited by P. Faber) - thank you, Ed! - which mentions plate tectonics shaping California millions of years ago. And Harbin Hot Springs could metaphorically be one such wild botanical garden, and Canyon too, and I as an anthropologist of Harbin's warm pool informing Harbin Hot Springs' culture, or counterculture (a theoretical contribution to the anthropological literature's significant focus on studying culture), both actually and virtually, am seeking to create another garden of learning at Work World University and School and with high achieving smart students (thanks Larry especially too, graduating from MIT with a BS in 1969!) ... Could WUaS collaborate with Harvard for such students and via Bill Fitzsimmons who graduated from Harvard in '67 - (a remarkable decade of freedom-seeking movements culturally & hippy community wise too)? ... See Bill Fitzsimmons here in the Minutes for WUaS Monthly Business Meeting posted on 12/31/21 & 1/1/22 http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/12/arctostaphylos-glauca-bigberry.html ...

Glad to have emailed a one-pager idea (a big vision involving most of the NSF, on both of WUaS's wings), to Alexandra Medina-Borja, a senior National Science Foundation administrator, at her invitation, about becoming a volunteer reviewer, and possible grant writing for World Univ & Sch (an idea letter about a realistic virtual earth for everything, but potentially beginning with focusing on a realistic virtual earth for genetics for longevity - longer than 122 years of age with machine learning prediction, then aging reversal, as a start, which is here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2022/01/northern-double-collared-sunbird_0643275698.html).

How to create a home school flourishing university culture - that's good and unparalleled and understanding and thinking (and safe too) and Friendly friendly and wonderfully social - even while beginning a family (with whom? parallels with A & S, past mutual loves, and possibly with some Scottish background?) in a safe place, and potentially moving out of this 'safe house,' and with longevity and aging reversal genetic drug therapies emerging?

Warmly, Scott

Could the ~1.5 acres at 670 Ridgecrest Rd Canyon 94516 become a Botanical garden itself coming into conversation with Berkeley's "Regional Parks' Botanical Garden" genetics -wise sharing plants? ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Canyon?m=0 ~

Fri, Jan 7, 10:43 PM (14 hours ago)

to India, Reshma, Dr, NTM, Prasanth, Prasanna, Scott, Pin, Narjeet

Thanks, Narjeet! Greetings, All!

Happy New Year (from a US perspective:)

Thanks for your amazing organizing and focus, and these Indian educational learning opportunities which are so great. Seems like amazing Indian religious holidays and celebrations re-writ for learning and the internet!

World Univ & Sch I hope will develop real time voice translation between all 22 official Indian languages building on the Google ecosystem (which doesn't do voice translation - such as would be useful in the United Nations too).

I just added (today) all 22 official languages in India to an international newspapers list I'm creating (below) ... as I seek the best newspapers in each of these languages, which I then read with the help of Google Translate, in a related vein.
