Scaling and Hiring Challenge
Scott:
World University and School needs to raise monies to hire our first executive director and 4-5 interns, so fundraising is the first challenge WUaS is facing. The main focus for the first WUaS executive director will be accreditation in the state of California (BPPE, WASC senior, NACAC membership for the Common Application), and given the MIT OCW-centric and Friendly/Quaker-informed mindset of WUaS, WUaS would like to hire a fFriend or someone who has gone to a Quaker college/school and enjoyed their learning experience there or similar, as well as someone who at the same time may have graduated from a MIT or Yale, for example, with their Creative Commons' course offerings. Doing this in multiple languages, after initially focusing the accreditation process in English will be another scaling challenge some months ahead.
Jhon:
We would like connect inter-lingually in this course with each other to accredit for Creative Commons' licensed WUaS university degrees, as well as develop wiki MIT OCW-centric universities in all 242 countries and in large languages, as well as wiki schools in all 7,106+ languages.
Mindset vs. Footprint
Scott:
The mindset WUaS would like to scale is a MIT-centric, creative STEM problem-solving one and also a Ffriendly collaborative communicative harmonizing-effect even Harbin Hot Springs’ warm mindset or culture. For this latter mindset, see especially - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2014/09/orchid-mantis-meditative-harbin-warm.html. Scaling in this academic high achieving as well as harmonizing contentment way emerges from, in World University and School's monthly business meetings (in the manner of Quakers) the contentment and MIT-centric communicative practices of the existing team already, in part, - especially at WUaS monthly business board meetings. Scaling these practices in particular through participation and attendance, and related specialization will significantly help to spread this mindset. WUaS plans to grow size-wise (footprint-wise) with this mindset potentially to hire as many as 800,000 - to 1 million people (IBM has about 426,000 employees) with MIT OCW-centric wiki CC universities and schools in all 7,106+ languages and 242+ countries, - offering the on the degree side Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees as well as the I.B. diploma in large languages and many countries. ON the wiki side, WUaS would like to scale the Wikipedia-mindset of do it yourself collaborative editable web pages knowledge generation around MIT OCW, so wikify MIT OCW in large languages and most countries for free degrees with MIT-informed highest achievers as students and faculty.
Jhon:
No matter what your stage of study is, your economic situation or the language you use, this project provides quality material in your language. WUaS wants to demonstrate that no barriers exist any longer that might prevent your intellectual development; in fact, because WUaS is wiki, we all can become teachers in this people-to-people open learning and teaching wiki.
'Catholicism' vs. 'Buddhism'
Scott:
MIT OCW-centric WUaS is more Buddhist (but really unprogrammed Quaker) in planning to scale with an underlying mindset. Via our WUaS monthly business meeting practices, based loosely on Quaker Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly business meeting process, WUaS would like to scale organizationally for each large language with corresponding countries, and as wiki schools in all languages. WUaS expects to expand 1) a developing sophisticated Quaker business process, 2) wiki culture, and 3) with great universities’ decision-making processes (such as MIT, Stanford, HYP missions and decision-making processes around knowledge generation), - all of which will be how WUAS develops our scaling philosophy, Buddhist-wise, as the venture grows.
Jhon:
Initially the platform offered the content and material for the world is unique and special it is wiki (editable) and CC (Creative Commons' licensed) because wiki information technologies offer easy access and a reponsive collective structure, where we all can edit the WUaS wiki. Eventually for degrees WUaS would like to engage the Conference Method of Teaching and Learning, modeled on Reed College's conference method - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - where students learn to talk with each other in specific academic ways.
Hot Cause & Cool Solution
Scott:
Universal education in all 7,106+ languages and 242+countries online, especially MIT OCW-centric, is a hot cause, and a CC World University and School, like Wikipedia with MIT OCW, especially designed with developing database querying software such as SemanticWiki and for all languages, is a very cool solution. Free and MIT and CC and wiki university education will stir hope in many poor high achieving people around the globe.
Jhon:
In many countries millions of students need open educational resources/material or courses for their schools or universities and through these learn to deal with economic, social problems, etc. This project connects students with MIT quality learning resources, and free access, and WUaS thus breaks the barriers that limits these students.
Cut Cognitive Load
Scott:
Specialization of WUaS interns, with plans to hire mostly graduate and undergraduate students from great universities in all languages to develop WUaS wiki subject pages and courseware in their own disciplines, will reduce cognitive load. These high achieving knowledge, student-developed and discipline-oriented specializations will thus reduce cognitive load conflict and also thus potentially increase willpower for these interns especially who may want to develop their own wiki subject pages to become expertly knowledgeable in a specific area or aspect of a discipline. WUaS would also like to hire Quakers/Friends around the globe, and think that the enjoyable Quaker Silent Meeting process, as a kind of (Buddhist?) meditation and underlying mindset will help reduce cognitive load among managers and administrators, as will the aspect of being part of a Ffriendly team.
Jhon:
This will include stages of dissemination, development of existing content in another language, the development of themes, development of fundraising methods, and the development of methods of teaching, - all reducing cognitive load.
This is a writing project for a 5 week free Stanford NovoEd course Scott is taking entitled "Scaling Up Your Venture Without Screwing Up" - https://novoed.com/scaling-up-your-venture-without-screwing-up.
I've posted this course project here -
