Whale Sanctuary of El Vizcaino, Mexico: WUaS Moving to MediaWiki probably, WUaS's Fund Raising page, WUaS Updates

In moving World Univ & Sch to a new Wiki, WUaS wonders what other wikis, besides MediaWiki (with Semantic Wiki add-ons), we should consider - for an all language, all country, wiki university & school - like Wikipedia with MIT OCW - potentially with an universal translator - where You can teach & learn.

World Univ & Sch - like Wikipedia with MIT OCW - grows daily:

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Special:WikiActivity.

WUaS hopes it will be helpful to you, especially with the opportunity for all of us to teach to & learn from one another, as well as with planned free degrees (Bach, MD, Law, PhD, - interactively online.

Kinabalu Park, Malaysia: World Univ & Sch plans to create online, accredited Univs. in other countries, UNESCO WHS approach, Volunteers, Contributors

As World Univ & Sch begins to create online, accredited universities in other countries

- taking a kind of UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription process approach -

it plans to build a lot of topographically-accurate, virtual land, with fascinating virtual buildings & art ...

fantastical, too :)

... lots of artistic land generation ahead, too, with creative education as a focus ...

Gunung Mulu National Park, Malaysia: Curious about socioculture processes, Individuals, groups & shared code question, Agency, Singing Harmony

... curious about socioculture processes

... a musical ensemble, an online network, this assemblage of people, or that, and why some flourish, and some seem to conflict more than others?

... This is an - individuals, groups & shared code question, anthropologically -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Anthropology

(and ‎perhaps a psychotherapy one, as well
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Psychotherapy).

In what ways might it be possible to bring knowledge from these Subjects to inform a flourishing World Univ & Sch?

it's also a question about agency ...
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Agency

... growing, open, teaching & learning resources at WUaS -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/ .

I'm particularly curious how to make them very enjoyable & relevant to you.

How to develop fruitfully the 'Counseling' page

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Counseling

at the bottom of the SUBJECT TEMPLATE

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE

which, right now, has a link to Re-evaluation Counseling (RC) ...

... where people at WUaS will be able to talk to each other for the same amount of time in open RC ways

(talking opens & changes things),

with the possibility of doing so anonymously online ...

Navigating socioculture processes with understanding is beneficial ... :)

especially via talking,

(which can be difficult at first)

While sociocultural processes (anthropology & ethnography), counseling & psychotherapy

(all wiki Subjects at WUaS -

may all be a hop, skip and a dance BACK AWAY from wondrous

Loving Bliss Eliciting
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology)

or the Relaxation Response

these may OPEN the way to exploring these, as well as much else -

ah, language :)

with all the related musical innovations we'll make :)

Barbershop quartet workshop (at this Folk Festival)

I hope WUaS can make this happen live in virtual worlds ...

Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve, Madagascar: Breathing play, yogically & naturally, Education as YOU like it at WUaS, Practicing & Metronome

is enjoying breathing play - the 'flow' (Csikszentmihalyi) of an easing, focused mind, somewhat yogically

& naturally

... feeling the wind move across the inner water lilies of the inner, left, lower body,

while softening & releasing open the right nostril to give more space for the breath ... to find its freedom flowing in

... opening my back throat, my windpipe, ... around the breath all the way down

... pouring this water breath into the water lily pond of the your inner pelvis belly

... can you feel your breath gently move the petals of the lily flowers in your left, inner belly ? ... Nympheas (Monet:)

If education - so, teaching & learning - could be the way you want it, with the option of a MIT course standard, for free degrees (Bach, Law, MD & Ph.D.), what would you include, teach or learn? http://worlduniversity.wikia.com is a wiki service & platform for this ... with an invitation to edit it ... And further, how might WUaS listen ... to what people want, in all languages, and realize this, too, - even over centuries?

*

is re-orienting how he thinks about practicing, and with a metronome, esp., to generate & cultivate 'flow' with the beat of this 'drum,' thus new ways of getting into 'the zone' of music (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Music) with this rhythm with resulting enjoyment (which is what flow is per Csikszentmihalyi) - et voila - practicing in a new light :)

Phoenix Islands, Kiribati: Extend the medical discipline of psychiatry at WUaS?, Evolutionary biological & primatological research?, Nontheist Friends

is curious to extend the medical discipline of psychiatry

(including knowledge/narratives of the mind, pharmaceuticals, therapeutic approaches, etc.)

to include knowledge based on evolutionary biology

(esp. human, and all species)

as well as, especially,

primatological research

(eg 376 species of higher primates, most without language).

New, wiki here at WUaS

Psychiatry: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Psychiatry

Science: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Science

World University Medical School: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School

Primatology:
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Primatology

Evolutionary Biology:
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Evolutionary_Biology

(... and, in its knowledge orientation to helping people with mental illness, informed by nontheistic Friendliness?)

I think there's a dearth of focus in psychiatry from these knowledge-spheres, but please add resources to further this conversation ...

In what ways could WUaS contribute a bliss focus (how to elicit this neurophysiology?) to the medical discipline of psychiatry, as well?

By 'non-theistically Friendly,' I tend to mean biological and sociocultural, with a touch of serendipity and synchronicity, and emerging out of Silent Meeting (& Quaker discourse) as a kind of de facto group relaxation response with a specific history, for us as human primates, - ideas relatively underexplored (by us as) nontheistic Friends. 'Non-theism' as biology and culture might bring us somehow into conversation with, for example, those peoples in Herzog's recent film 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams' who lived and made cave art 30,000-40,000 years ago in what is now the south of France.

World University's beginnings of Medical School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - are growing, with new, wiki, Psychiatry Subject page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Psychiatry - and much innovation in research and clinical practice online ahead ...

del Monte San Giorgio, Italy: World Unviersity & School Critiques and Responses, Calif Incorporation & 501 (c) (3) status, Accreditation is Next

Hi J,

Thanks for your critiques. The argument that if these other entities scaled large (e.g. WWW, University, Wikipedia in 281 languages, MIT OCW, Intel), the startup World University and School can, too, has probably an 1 in 7 chance of success - per UC Berkeley Professor Manuel Castells' observation in a course in 2000 at Berkeley, - which is the rate that I.T. startups in the '60s, '70s and '80s succeeded. Startups have been a risky adventure for venture capitalists, but WUaS is a nonprofit. And WUaS has both incorporated (in April 2010), and gotten 501 (c) (3) status, about 2 weeks ago, so as I see it, we're on our way.

World University & School has 2 main aspects. First, it's a wiki-meta-directory and second, WUaS is working to become a degree-granting university (Bachelors, Ph.D., Law and Medicine) with matriculating classes beginning in 2014. Remember, I've been the main aggregator over the past 3-4 years, and it's been a long haul; there are an amazing number of open, free, high quality resources here, which continue to wiki-grow. Students will, in general, select from MIT OCW / Berkeley Webcast / Yale OYC courses online, as they do form the Cal Berkeley catalog.

As monies begin to come in, we hope to hire, first, interns, especially from great universities, using this list of 34 or so, especially also for their open course ware - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses#University_course_listings. Please keep this in mind for your UC Berkeley students. See the very beginnings of the intern job list here: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Master_Plan. Each academic 'Subject' page may well become its own academic department over time. Jobs are needed in academia, and WUaS hopes to be able to provide them, in significant numbers, too. And these wiki pages will grow significantly. And, remember, you or anyone can edit them now, as wiki pages, which is how Wikipedia took off. The volunteer aspect of Wikipedia is remarkable and what the web makes possible due to its distributedness. One of our first main hires will be the Head of Information Technology at WUaS, whom I think will facilitate a lot that's not here now, including responses to your criticisms.

In many ways, MIT OCW is the focus for degree granting, and the rest of the subject pages are for open, free references, and idea-sharing (at the bottom of the subject template). Here's the basis for most WUaS 'Subject' pages at present - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE. A main idea at WUaS is education as conversation, which wiki facilitates. (Reed College has at its core the conference-method, which WUaS will emulate and cultivate online). I think that interns who may become faculty, and faculty to come (e.g. at great universities like MIT, who may come to collaborate with WUaS), will find the MIT OCW to be a helpful, clear, course structure, and they'll be able to add their own resources, as they focus the WUaS wiki, academic pages, with MIT OCW as the standard. These people will become the curators, in part. WUaS has been a little short-handed thus far, to say the least.

We haven't had to deal with vandalism thus far, and there's amazing value in openness for sharing ideas, but Wikipedia, which has become very rule bound, is our model if vandalism, etc., emerges. And for the academic side, MIT OCW is the standard. Finding faculty to teach this - for this is what WUaS plans to accredit on - is what WUaS is beginning to think through at present.

Fortunately, people are creating their own universities and schools at the same time online, which allows all of us to complement each other. It's a great time of creativity in online education. MIT OCW is one example, and a high academic standard, however, so finding overachievers for our free degrees, (those who might otherwise go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, etc.), may indeed be difficult, in that WASC offers a kind of provisional accreditation for degrees only, until the first class graduates four years.

If individual faculty members who are teaching in the WUaS Computer Science subject - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Computer_Science - or related, need data portability, I suspect they'll make it happen, with WUaS's support. Transcripts via a secure registrar may well become portable to other universities, but remember we're in the very beginnings of this university, and, in some ways, of the web, itself. WUaS lists links at this point, and data portability may be best handled through these links external to WUaS in the beginning, but of course this will change as the need arises per faculty members. There are a lot! of changes ahead for World University and School. Thanks so much to MIT OCW for the course standard - now to find the monies and the interns, and, if only in the name of job creation and academic excellence online, I think WUaS will find them. But I think this seed of some 350 WUaS wiki pages, with MIT OCW, the conversation-approach to education, via wiki, multiple Skype windows, and in virtual worlds, for example, will even transform education, in some respects, while complementing all the great on-the-ground universities. And WUaS would like to lead the way for robust, open, free online technologies for teaching and learning, which other great universities will of course be able to use, as WUaS is Creative Commons.

World University and School is a creative startup for creative, developing approaches to education using MIT OCW as an academic basis, and where people can teach to each other, (e.g. Salman Khan's Khan Academy). It's hard to say what WUaS will look like in 5 years, let alone 50. But WUaS seeks to be a leader in information technological innovation, as a great university. (And I've only outlined part of WUaS in this email).

You write: "I think this sort of task has to be massively distributed, with distributed ownership and control of collections of links. Something much more like the delicious data model, with tagging etc. " I agree. Delicious is part of the SUBJECT TEMPLATE Navigation section, and WUaS's Library Resources (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources) and Museums (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Museums), potentially all of both, in all languages (Wikipedia is in 281 languages) are all distributed and owned by the museums and libraries that put their collections on the web. WUaS will synthesize some of this with time.

Here are 571 blog entries, all relating to World University and School, if you'd like to peruse specifics further: http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university.

Accreditation is next with matriculating classes beginning in 2014.

With best wishes,
Scott

Mt. Nimba, Guinea: How can WUaS improve on free video hosting for education?, Developing a robust WUaS interface, Computer Backups?, Human Primates?

check out the bud of a Medical School at WUaS -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School

also at
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses -

where you can learn, and teach, even when not enrolled ...

How to facilitate more explicitly the FUN of Knowing Things :)?

World University & School is

a Makers' Faire,

a Doers' Faire,

a Musical Gathering,

a Rainbow Festival of Thinking ...

Add a thought, an idea, a conception to the wiki Subjects' page -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects -

or to the Museums' wiki Subjects' page -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Museums

or where you'd like ...

this Open Ideas' Faire is Freee! :)

Rif a little ...

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Museums
:)

Let's see if WUaS can generate 'Make your own Museum' information technologies here :)

After writing this, I found the Intel's 'Museum of Me' online ...

http://www.intel.com/museumofme/r/index.htm

cool

With all the art on the Web, things on the WUaS Museums' page

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Museums -

with upcoming programming & creativity possibilities -

could begin to get really wild ...

think hands-on, creative, kids' museums

like the Children's Museum in Boston,

or the Exploratorium in SF ...

all on the web :) ...

and with interactivity with a headband like

http://brainfingers.com/
:)

again, ... added a whole series of 'Learning Networks' -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Learning_Networking -

to the WUaS [[SUBJECT TEMPLATE]],

which will also be found in the Navigation Sections at the bottom of most pages over time.

For example, there is now

a Twitter World University and School page,

an Academia.edu World University and School page,

and a Tribe.net World University and School page

to extend the WUaS conversations ...

with an invitation to contribute to this WUaS conversation in multiple places ...

Canal-du-midi, France: Going beyond MIT OCW, its Media Lab, and Reed College, Academics, Happiness, and even Flourishing? Virtual TEXT, Counterculture

In what ways might it be possible to go beyond MIT OCW

(over 2,050 courses - http://ocw.mit.edu/ & Media Lab, etc.)

and Reed College

(critical thinking, undergraduate teaching excellence, Hum 110, distribution reqs., junior qualifying exams, thesis for everyone)

in terms of Happiness & even Bliss

via Wiki ...

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Happiness ... Study ...

‎... Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, and so many more,

undergraduates who flourish / thrive sublimely for 4 years,

in 32 15 week courses? :)

Papers/Studies about this?

... and share this process with everyone ...

I hypothesize that some flourishing undergraduate overachieving

(at a H.Y.P.M.S.C. and so many more great universities)

has to do with their qualities of focus in critical thinking ...

and that this emerges from their families ...

.. in the mileu of their families, as a conversation ...

Thoughts about Happiness in Learning?

Studies, with implications for everyone ?

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Education ...

How do kids flourish in learning environs or with critical thinking?

A great relationship with 'the text'?

To find 'flow' with 'the text,'

you have to animate it,

or virtualize it,

in your bodymind ('active reading').

... what are some of the best ways for kids to find their ways to this naturally, accurately and easily? ...

'animated flow/focus' ...

Beyond the beneficial movement and well-being,

in what ways is it possible to engage yoga for secular, bodymind, bliss neurophysiology ...

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Yoga ? ...

haven't come across too many books about, or practices for, this interesting question and related possibilities .... :)

I find a kind of alternative freedom from cultural processes in yoga.

The movement, and well-being, frees one up from all kinds of stresses that might,

and do,

emerge from sociocultural processes,

especially in modernities ...

how to "yoga- (connect) virtualize" toward loving bliss bodymind neurophysiology are fascinating questions & processes -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Yoga -

invitation ... to edit this page/practice yoga :)

would like to digitize the world, or facilitate this ... google earth in 3 D with realistic/fantastic avatars ... to complement the place and movement thing ... a virtual book/film extensibility thing :) ... and vis-a-vis the navigation section of World Univ & Sch's SUBJECT TEMPLATE - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE :)

New 'Learning Networking' section in WUaS's Navigation sections, with many, new World University and School Social Networking Groups on the 'Subject Template' - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Learning_Networking - e.g. Academia, Delicious, Twitter and so many more ... :)

Mt Nimba, Africa: Both Bachelors, MD, Law and PhD tracks as a MIT/Reed on the Web AND a 'drop out' track for folks to think, Counterculture, Bliss

Could World University & School create both Bachelors, MD, Law and PhD tracks

as a kind of MIT / Reed College on the Web

with robust developing information technologies

AND

a 'drop out' track for folks who just want to hang out in and drop into a cool, thoughtful space,

and think ...

Yes, WUaS already is http://worldunicersity.wikia.com/

and potentially in all languages :)

*

Agency - or individual, free choice - is at the center of World University and School, where both degree-oriented thinkers, and 'drop out' thinkers, can continue ...

to think ...

*

sm: "... wondering whether one key sense of 'counterculture' emerges from the idea that cultures themselves are 'other' to each other so that counter could refer to 'alternative,' 'different' or 'other,' and hippies with so much world travel just tripped out on this and flew into counterculture's other realm :) http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Counterculture ... looking for references and etymologies that rock anthropologically."

bw: 'Back in the day, "counter" (as in "counterculture") meant active opposition to the powers-that-be and the majority culture seen as fronting for them.'

*

There are so many bliss channels 'out there' -

talk to your best friend,

talk with your love,

turn on the Grateful Dead,

turn on Yo yo Ma playing Bach Cello Suites,

turn on to Mozart ...

with Youtube and the Web with its INFINITE URLs (web site addresses),

you could spend much of your life listening to your favorite musics ...

HMmm http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Music :)?

Yes ...

wonders if poeple have or develop Harbin 'maps,' that are somehow analagous to John Money's (1988) Lovemap idea (a template in the bodymind ...), especially vis-a-vis the Harbin pools :)

(http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2011/06/mt-nimba-africa-both-bachelors-md-law.html - June 1, 2011)

San Pedro Beach: Cote d'Ivoire, Africa: Harbin is very much a place for, and of, the people, Unique, diverse and sometimes funky, and often hippy

Harbin is very much a place for, and of, the people .... Harbin folks, especially - which is great ... But 'the people' here at Harbin are unique, diverse and sometimes funky, and often hippy folks from northern California ... Has Harbin come to define its 'the people' in its own way emerging out of its milieu, coming out of the '60s, and as visitors?

In the hot pool room, I saw, coming out of the bust of the woman's head (someone told me this spring that the woman after whom this bust is modeled was 'Tara Strachan' or 'Tara Strong') above the whale spout, flowers that made her look like the 'statue of liberty,' with a kind of palmate frond behind the many other flowers ... kind of wild. :)
