Tennessee Valley hiking, Cardenas market, with mask, and bell, Sunday ~ 8/29/21
Ma, Ed,
How are you? How was your weekend? (And your gardens' tour, Ma?)
The Cardenas grocery store with relatively good value produce here has a bell in its front facade ... Old California pattern.
From emails from yesterday -
'Things are picking up,' you said Ed, as our phone call came to a close, and I heard your family in the background, regarding dinner time too I think ... (while I was talking from the parking lot of the closed UU Church overlooking downtown Oakland in the distance on a cloudy evening) ... .. I remembered the song, "Donna,' from Hair the American Tribal Love Rock Musical," and found it here -
https://youtu.be/BiTQSxfwTRU :) - from "Hair - The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical" even?) What things are picking up, Ed? :)
...
Nice to talk, Ed, last night (from the UU Church for me:)!
Fondly,
Scott
Hair: the Tribal Love Rock Musical (28) - label in daily blog
(The '60s and '70s were an amazingly alternative-culturally vibrant time, Ed ... and you grew up in the SF Bay Area ... and per the 'Donna' song too!:)
Am wondering too if Brookline MA has the kind of warm friendly smart human connecting community (albeit in a big old city, with cold winters, humid summers, and not so many amazing natural areas) I'm kind of looking for, in a way that I haven't found in California. Turned onto Brookline St in Marin, and which made me wonder (and I think the Robbs may have lived long enough in Brookline, MA, to know how to connect with this community, too, although it seems unlikely we'll .... , re realism). Poison Ivy song came on iHeart Radio here in Marin, making me kinda smile -
https://youtu.be/ZRfRITVdz4k .... an ocean at Cuttyhunk with coast(ers), and get lots of calamine over the counter :) ...
And the Tennessee Valley hiking staging area had a community of 20,000 people (hippies & vagabonds?:) living on its slopes until the local community nixed the idea, I read and took a picture of. And the Miwok people (and their living languages re WUaS) in the area became https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federated_Indians_of_Graton_Rancheria and https://gratonrancheria.com/ ... Interesting!
Masks are still required in Cardenas market - still very Latino culturally - and some other grocery stores. Why, socioculturally? Anonymity? Comfort of management - and regarding internet media?
Scott
These 3 songs - 'Donna' and 'Poison Ivy' and 'Peggy-O' - ...
My goodness, another related song just popped up that speaks to me in these regards
- https://youtu.be/cPJOmkDOFcQ - and in the very old ballad form, sung and played beautifully in '77 by the Grateful Dead in Englishtown NJ :)
Fondly Scott
Just walked up the new Tennessee valley trail for me to a major Tennessee Valley trail junction where you put on many layers after our walk from Muir Beach, then taking a fairly sharp turn, then seeing those two ravens (that somehow reminded me of Nicola Clayton Cambridge Univ Prof who studies their intelligence and communication too ... We didn't stop, but now setting for a bit I see the Pacific below and white caps around shoreline rocks, and a little power boat too seemingly at anchor on a quite foggy day. Just texted you. Hoping you're having a good day. Found this AllTrails' App Trail at the last minute - Tennessee Valley, Muir Beach, Coastal and Fox Trail on AllTrails
Ed was able to take a screenshot of the blue dot where I sit and write you concurrently an email :) Scott

Hi Ma and Ed,
Good morning, and nice to talk to you, Ma. How are you both doing!
Professor of Genetics and a Director at the Broad Inst (of Harvard & MIT) Elinor Karlsson who's in her mid-40s I think, and studies disease processes in dogs, hasn't focused on aging reversal explicitly very much at all - but vaccines, genetics and diseases in dogs could be at the forefront of the aging reversal field is interesting. ... but if somehow aging reversal genetic therapies emerge, - ...
Searched on 'aging reversal post covid-19 pandemic' ... Which made me wonder whether the Covid-19 pandemic was a kind of 'Manhattan project' partly conceived of by Harvard Prof of Genes' George Church to catalyze aging reversal Genetics' research ...
And found ...
"Active and Healthy Aging After COVID-19 Pandemic in Portugal and Other European Countries: Time to Rethink Strategies and Foster Action"
... I note the words 'frontier sin' in the publication.
Being 'selfless' is a familiar way of being in my experience in women - but how SF California might change this is a question. I'm recalling Susan a bit in these regards, a previous mutual-love (from Washington state).
California's a kind of topsy turvy place culturally in my experience ... Freedom- (post Covid-19 pandemic self-quarantine), ethics- and caring-wise (& re is there a kind of lack of 'love' culturally 'in the air' - recognizing what George Alexander MD observed about love sardonically or in a droll way - that 'love and fifty cents, or now $2.15, will get you a cup of coffee). And I write with a damaged far left eye due I think to the 2nd Pfizer vaccine - and perhaps a lack of ethics in the Covid-19 pandemic, breaking laws from the 1940s .. in a nonSARS CoV2 non-epidemic.
Glad I checked in with you last night Ma - nice to talk (from the UU Church of Kensington Berkeley's hill bench) ... Glad I checked into Harbin Hot Springs all these years too (and wrote 'Naked Harbin Ethnography,' and 4 related books of poetry) ... And re UC Berkeley's, and also its Law Sch's 'atrocities' too (KP-wise) ... and I'll send a 'check in' to Quaker Friends' Association for Higher Education (FAHE) today re checking in too ... Re FAHE membership again ...
Am continuing to call, and at World University and School, for abolition of the illegal sex industry, and internationally ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/06/bald-eagle-abolition-nontheist-quakers.html ... And while this seems as unlikely as abolishing slavery as an institution in all 200 countries and their languages, ... at least one small voice continues to call for this (kind of as another Friendly leading even re WUaS ... A little bit alone albeit ... )
Continuing to circulate - via the web too - seeking a natural connection, life partner and to begin to give birth to kids, and am skeptical too that any of the women above are good fits or connections ... Maybe time to head to a Friends' Quaker Educational Center (eg a Pendle Hill) in a Germanic language speaking country if one exists (eg with Belgium WUaS or even Scotland WUaS re the Scots' dialect or language) ... or better, perhaps, create some at World Univ and Sch online in other countries ... And begin to travel again internationally to these ...
Seeking too to bring language to some of these questions ...
Fondly, Scott

Hi Ma and Ed,
How are you? What are you up to this weekend?
Staying tuned, Ma + re ... Another good walk to the UU Church yesterday ... What if someone has 2 native American ancestors too (like I've heard we have, Ma, but haven't yet seen in genealogy software, and am a little curious what Genetic Genealogy might show in the future: sometimes I've thought that I could see Native American ancestry in Granny Brown's face, your mother)? But I heard or learned this long ago. What if someone identifies Quaker or as a Friend?
https://twitter.com/eenork/status/1374216872384724993?s=19 (is that the word Spa in her painting?) - and with the interesting online talk I attended in January. What if aging reversal genetic drug therapies could make her - or anyone else - 28 years' old again ... While I appreciate Elinor's thoughtfulness and female understanding/caring and thinking, I don't think we'd become more than colleagues.
Circulating, seeking natural connection (somewhat old fashioned or traditional too?) and could well start traveling again potentially ... as individual seeking life partner on my own to begin too to give birth to my children :) with a loving talk friend (not findable in California)?
Scott
From text chat last night -
Hi Ma - on the 2.89 kilometer journey up to the UU Church again ... The 5.78 km journey roundtrip MEANING-WISE ... in terms of mathematical translation of 3.6 mile ... walk often to a somewhat familiar cultural destination :)
Interesting that this UU Church is not showing much sign of opening whatsoever ... Wonder what it means
Meaning and identity ~ group identity re Friends or UUs or Yoga or Hindu or not Harbin Hot Springers, all with religion-tones ... or hippies ... or scientists, or social scientists or anthropologists or sociologists, all with knowledge generation-tones, medical doctors, with knowing-caring tones too ... or poets, writers or bloggers, Scottish small pipers, musicians too ... Or presidents it professors or presiding clerks or CEOs or founders, all with leadership-tones ... Father or grandfather to be tones ... How could genetics even change some of these things? Is genetic engineering already changing identity and meaning questions ?
