Google search just now - 'what is thinking?'
think·ing
noun
the process of using one's mind to consider or reason about something.
"they have done some thinking about welfare reform"
adjective
using thought or rational judgment; intelligent. ...

This came up too - "Thought encompasses a flow of ideas and associations that can lead to logical conclusions. Although thinking is an activity of an existential value for humans, there is still no consensus as to how it is adequately defined or understood." Wikipedia

Google search again - What Is Intelligence? ... Intelligence has been defined in many ways: higher level abilities (such as abstract reasoning, mental representation, problem solving, and decision making), the ability to learn, emotional knowledge, creativity, and adaptation to meet the demands of the environment effectively

Problem-solving is one good straight forward encapsulation :)

What is philosophy? One good amusing def. - thinking about thinking

Google search - what is philosophy ... "the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline" ... Hmmm ๐Ÿ’—

Google search - what is Indian philosophy? :)

Anyone ? In this philosophy dialogue? What do you think, about any of those 4 questions?

Google search finding - "Indian philosophy helps us see clearly, act wisely in an interconnected world
The Conversation" :)

Am liking this finding - "Classical Indian philosophy is an unbroken tradition of reflection expressed in the pan-Subcontinent intellectual language of Sanskrit." https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/epistemology-india/ (for further nuance and information philosophically in writing :)

Stanford Philosophy of Encyclopedia

Feelings in Yoga

I looked up Yoga in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and interestingly found an article on emotions in Yoga - https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/concept-emotion-india/ written by http://faculty.salisbury.edu/~jptuske/ - and which ('feelings' ... and re Yoga) is a focus of Angela Farmer (from whose Yoga circles, I'm a dropout, in a 1960s' sense, along with VvK's) ... but regarding WUaS seeking to make psychiatry  and 'talk therapy' easily available online (as information technology too, which can have an effect of 'brain' processes, per perhaps French psychiatrist psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan's oft cited observation that "The unconscious is structured like a language") ...

Dear Ed, and Ma,

E,

Yi!  Plans already for tomorrow. . ..  Sundays are tricky.

S,

Yay! Might I read your 'Yi' message last night, Ed, as you being the great Dad that you are and re raising your 3 kids, and 11th grader in particular, in Berzerkeley, as they become adult, - and also re the 'Yi' word that you might keep your eyes open for a possible good fit of a femme re my seeking a friend, life partner, and even to begin a 'Scottish American' family? Y = male Gene, so in a sense, its absence is female determining, I = first person singular? :) (MD, knows genetics, pretty, seeking partner herself, in her late 20s even?:) see you soon:) & Thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Š

S,

Not UC post-docs' CR or DL for me (... but maybe for you???) ... but some one in their circles, or someone even on this side of the Bay, a warm Mette Mathisen, - my Norwegian friends (Stein and Mette, where he's a professor of Anthropology at Arctic University of Norway in Tromso) - and she's a nurse, and a wonderful person:))

S,

Piobaireachd piping group lesson just popped up, surprisingly, from the great Stuart Liddell for today at noon or 1 ... Could I possibly meet a life partner to be here? :)

See you .... in the 'hood then, Ed (re living in a 'safe house' from Canyon perps, offs. purveyors, even? - And what happens also when everyone has enough money from say, Stanford Mine Pi, so nothing illegal happens in some open sexual engagements (re no 'trickery' even), explored here a bit - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/09/utricularia-gibba-humped-or-floating.html - which could be a kind of California shift in an amazing array of legal regimes (in all 200 countries even )... What do you think? See you tomorrow, Ed, around 5 ....!

Diseases (continued)

Dear Ma, Sandy, Pin, Mark, Larry, Ann,

Misdiagnoses from medical MDs could be misused - tragically too - to enslave people, not help them (and how to create a culture of medicine which helps people) ... And I'm living, sadly, in a 'safe house,' from Canyon perps, offs. purveyors, I hypothesize, from the illegal sex industry and its latent cultures of harming and violence  ...

And yet what happens also when everyone (especially the poorest in the poorest countries) has enough money from say, Stanford Mine Pi, so nothing illegal happens, for example, in some open sexual engagements (re no 'trickery' even), which I've explored here a bit - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/09/utricularia-gibba-humped-or-floating.html - which could be a kind of California shift in an amazing array of legal and economic regimes (in all 200 countries even ) ... but how best to protect people legally and culturally somehow if an illegal sex industry (in contrast to a illegal trade) has already enslaved people, and redress such issues social justice wise, and psychiatrically, and re 'religious experience' of transcendence or wholeness even? ... What do you think? ... And what happens if non-commercial sexual engagements are somehow all legal at state, federal and local levels, and perpetrators were in some form of restraint or jail, and victims and prospective victims could be protected with ever improving psychiatry (talk therapy, drugs even )??? that helps people ... and in many cultures, and that doesn't lead to slavery ... even. Would California go in the direction of a kind of Dutch law rewritten for the internet's information age and CA, and with excellent law enforcement to protect victims, and protective laws and measures? What's the history of psychiatric disease diagnosis in The Netherlands in these regards, and would that suggest that California would not head in such a direction?

A actual-virtual realistic virtual earth, cloning of various mammals, and emerging robotics might offer completely new ways of developing all of this in avatar bot electronic medical records - and for all 7.8 billion people, and to protect the innocent, and shape culture in the ways societies (such as western European societies and nation states, by way of comparison) might choose ...

Am hoping WUaS Medical Schools can improve on psychiatric disease diagnoses ... and in all 200 countries, and in their languages, esp.

Fond regards, Scott

Ma, Ed,

Re robots that could load dishwashers, could they also help teach me in an extraordinary new innovate way Piobaireachd classical bagpiping music, and diagnose my right ear eustachian tube dysfunction with sophisticated tests (now and in 459 years), as well as install Google Nest WiFi Hub, and then a Google Nest x Yale Lock with Nest Connection, and do carpentry and cleaning, and help me learn to sing bass lines better, and sing with me ... and rewrite culture too (by sharing nice things and helpfulnesses ... and when robot is attacked by rogues and in a rogue culture, not be scarred for life, or pass this on through generations even? ) ... all in a house on the east coast (since I'm living in a 'safe house') ... and may move east in spring 2022, for safety (since I don't think the rogue culture with its latent culture of violence of the illegal sex and crime industries in California will go way, until CA gets its act together with better more enforceable laws) ... and move east to continue to develop my actual-virtual Harbin ethnography project (STEM and virtual earth too) virtually from there?

Fond regards,

Scott

PS

Ma, - do you find this 'counter-Unitarian-culture' thinking at the beginning amusing? ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/09/black-footed-ferret-mustela-nigripes_0885055734.html :)? ... re a departure from the 'man in black idea' ... (which, although, Sandy and I didn't grow up in the 1st UU Church of Pittsburgh, even though Dad was the chair of the Board for a year or two, I think, ... there was not only Rev David Herndon, as man in black robes, who was the minister at Dad's memorial service there in 2007, I think, and minister at 1st UU Church Pgh for ~28 years, but also Rev. Paul Beattie (and are the online histories I found incorrect?), when Dad was in that initial role in the mid-1970s I think, as man in black) ...

Am glad I'm a child of the 1960s, re all its questioning of authority ... and Dad's questioning of authority too ... and that, counter culturally, in a sense, un-programmed Quaker Meetings dumped the 'man in black' from the get go from 1652 or so, although George Fox, founder of Quakerism, had shaggy shaggy locks ... and that I've explored inner body Yoga re alternative culture ... where Angela with Victor, wear hippy clothes, man dressed in black minister-wise, - and Dad considered becoming a UU minister before he went into medicine - and that the Harbin warm pool and pool area - are naked, or clothing-optional - and its founder, Ishvara, is pretty dysfunctional ... and kinda not entirely well, or even not good humanity-oriented ...

All by way of living in a safe house, in northern California, north of Berkeley, - and continuing to call for abolition of the illegal sex industry (following on the abolition of slavery), but wondering how culture and law enforcement, with artificial intelligence even, will effect these, and per the huge numbers of slaves to this day in ...

" have slavery?' and found ... As of 2018, the countries with the most slaves were: India (18.4 million), China (3.86 million), Pakistan (3.19 million), North Korea (2.64 million), Nigeria (1.39 million), Indonesia (1.22 million), Democratic Republic of the Congo (1 million), Russia (794,000) and the Philippines (784,000) * in "

http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/09/banyan-tree-stammtisch.html

(But how would UBI experiments with Stanford Mine Pi change a significant dynamic in the illegal sex industry ... if no money was exchanged, since everybody had enough - see the Stanford Mine Pi logo - and were free to be intimate when and as they wanted, legally too? And what would be the legal status of Stanford Mine Pi in all ~200 such countries in these regards too?)

Fondly, Scott

Ma, Ed,

Much counterculture, in a way, on Cuttyhunk in the 1970s and '80s ... (at least it was the 1970s, ... and the freedom seeking student movements of the 1960s and '70s were still in the air:)

Rev John Ward on Cuttyhunk in the Cuttyhunk Methodist Church, and with his family, as close family friends, - and with some Scottish background, living there too - is more prominent as 'man in black robes' in my recollection in the summers, August mostly or some ... although I was pretty ambivalent about the Cuttyhunk Methodist Church, and religion back then too. :) Hymn singing was fun ... but am appreciating the Grateful Dead coming to UU Church in southern California in 1966 as an authentic religious experience per - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/09/black-footed-ferret-mustela-nigripes_0885055734.html - in comparison ... even though being on Cuttyhunk re community especially ... resounds as a kind of authentic religious experience somehow even ...

Grateful Dead played on

February 6, 1966

at the

Northridge Unitarian Church

Los Angeles, California

Grateful dead 05/1966 Avalon Ballroom San Francisco CA

https://youtu.be/0JplB157RgE

And while the above is kind of countercultural in a very different way than on Cuttyhunk in the 1970s, I experience kinds of freedom, of freeing feelings even, in both :)
