http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2015/08/wuass-business-plan-update-and-with.html

- Mission statement

The mission of World University and School (http://worlduniversityandschool.org - like Wikipedia with best STEM-centric OpenCourseWare) is to facilitate all levels of teaching and learning through open, editable wikis. WUaS plans to accredit at the university and high school levels to offer online degrees and diplomas. WUaS’s wiki will involve open and editable teaching and learning but also non-editable courses prepared under a Creative Commons’ license. WUaS will facilitate the use of free CC courses as credits toward degrees. Due to the rapid spread of broadband worldwide, WUaS plans to make this accessible to underserved parts of the world and to poor people everywhere. WUaS will explore the possibility of using universal translators to extend the project automatically to any language with time.

- Why World University and School and WUaS’s team?

World University and School’s team’s international focus makes possible WUaS’s plan to offer accredited, Creative Commons’ licensed, free, best STEM-centric, online, university degrees (e.g. C.C. MIT OCW in 7 languages and C.C. Yale OYC) in many languages and countries: Bachelor, Ph.D., law, and M.D., as well as I.B. high school diplomas. WUaS’s team’s international focus also facilitates open wiki-schools, for people-to-people teaching in all 7,941+ languages and 242+ countries.

- Why should we believe WUaS? (i.e. what is your track record)

World University and School incorporated in 2010 as an educational organization in California, and received federal, 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status in 2011, and has approximately 700 wiki, subject pages. WUaS plans to accredit first in California and with BPPE, and potentially with WASC senior in its new “incubation policy.” WUaS has a long track record of institutionalizing as an online, startup, best STEM OCW-centric university, and long term goals and plans.

- Why WUaS?

WUaS will benefit a lot of people with free, best, C.C. STEM-centric, online, university degrees, planned in most countries’ main languages, as well as with schools in all languages. Since these schools, universities and degrees are Creative Commons’ licensed, they will be free, particularly benefitting the poor as they get mobile computers. WUaS also has a specific educational focus to provide free, online education in the developing world.

- How and why WUaS will run its business: from infrastructure, to customer relationship, to maintenance.

WUaS develops wiki pages are the platform, and WUaS will move to the new Wikidata repository (being written for Wikipedia’s 288 languages). WUaS aggregates great universities’ OpenCourseWare, such as C.C. MIT OCW and C.C. Yale OYC, and eventually in all languages and countries. WUaS plans to accredit on these Creative Commons’ licensed resources, in all 200+ countries.

WUaS information technology department will do I.T. maintenance and handle related Wiki and I.T. developments, planned for all languages.

As a startup, online university, WUaS’s graduate student instructors will be one way WUaS develops relationships with customers, that is students. WUaS is also planning to hire technical support people, perhaps with office hours in a Google + Hangout.

WUaS uses monthly business meeting process in the manner of Quakers as its locus of decision-making, and will thus inform how WUaS runs its business.

- Financial analysis, from how much money you think you will make and how, to how much you will need to finance the business and whether you are looking to raise funds.

WUaS seeks to build a $20-$50 million dollar endowment as a 5 year target. Within 5 years, WUaS plans to acquire the endowment base necessary to sustain this business with 100,000  students and 2,000 instructors. ... $20-$50 mn ($1mn-$5mn revenue).

WUaS plans to raise funds from governments, universities, philanthropic foundations as well as individuals.

WUaS is also planning an online bookstore / computer store and in all languages and countries, for textbooks, intellectual resources, musical instruments for students at WUaS, with a plan to charge 2% less than the competition in various countries (probably on the order fulfillment side).

WUaS also is planning on-the-ground bookstores at some point in the future, perhaps near Apple Computer stores in cosmopolitan cities of learning around the globe.

- Market analysis looking at how big your market is and who your customers are.

Markets are numbers of people willing to spend the hours studying at best C.C. STEM-centric WUaS for free degrees.

WUaS’s market includes all countries and people in their main languages.

Since WUaS is free, Creative Commons’ licensed and accrediting, our current competition / peers include the free edX, Coursera and Udacity. But WUaS plans to become a Tier 1, online university, the MIT / Harvard of the internet, and remain Creative Commons’ licensed.

- How many people will WUaS hire, when do we need them, how many thousands of hours of instructors' time?

WUaS may eventually hire 100s of thousands of people. WUaS would benefit greatly with 5 interns this autumn 2015. In the autumn of 2016, and depending on the number of matriculated, undergraduate students, planning to take 36 MIT OCW-centric courses for an undergraduate degree, - ideally 2000 1st year students, first in English, WUaS would like to hire graduate students for 30 different undergraduate classes, each class having a maximum of 10 students per section.

- Implementation roadmap: how are you planning to grow in the future and the financial forecasts.

Core US pilot program Year 1 developed concurrently with a number of country -specific programs and focused on 30 initial C.C. MIT OCW Audio - Video courses -
http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/ - introductory courses, in Google + group video Hangouts - https://plus.google.com/hangouts.

-  Risk analysis to demonstrate you have considered risks and that you are prepared to tackle eventual challenges that may arise.

Market risk: Insufficient number of students - MODERATE

Operational risk: failure/lapses in delivery of courses to students - HIGH

Legal risks: reputation, non-delivery, Intellectual Property - LOW

Financial risks: liquidity, insolvency - MODERATE TO HIGH

WUaS doesn’t have plant, equipment, or brick and mortar costs.
