Hi Ed, there's a debate this afternoon with HMS's George Church & 3 others at 2 PT on gene editing - "You can vote & comment.   For what diseases (present & future) is genetic medicine a good option, FDA approvable, and equitably accessible" - https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1494080415895896066 with relevance @WorldUnivAndSch & #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics for molecular engineering (https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1494341090001883136) Any interest? I'm attending (go to an academic debate together? We haven't done this much :)

*

Ed:

Thanks for inviting me.  To go with you, yes.  About the topic, I have a priori reservations.I realize the private market drives these developments.  But why do we have to pay for these things?  If rather see health care dollars go toward a robust public health system, and the development of new antibiotics.  So, I may just get irritated and leave/sign out.  And i may go visit my sick aunt.  Slept zero hours last night, which might dissuade me from driving, as it did that day we were planning to hike.   In which case, i won't go visiting.  I might also fall asleep in the seminar. . ..

How does it work to attend?

*

Interesting! Have you registered? I registered, and it looks like the links are in the registration information for attending ... What could it mean to attend an intellectual debate TOGETHER, connecting-wise, virtually from different places in the information technology age, beyond texting together during the debate ? Worth creating! (But I come back to the idea of 2 channels for communication in virtual worlds in courses with avatars too ... voice and text chat, and if the text chat is addressing interesting 'serious' questions and generating ideas in conversation with the debate further, then a great kind of attending together and connecting might be emerging, and further developable:))

*

Should I look at one of the links you sent me for registration?

To change topics, what do you think of exploring

https://www.ebparks.org/parks/sobrante-ridge

*

Will genetic engineering drugs be different, in an unique category, from say new antibiotics? I selected the 'undecided' option when registering - https://intelligencesquaredus.org/debates/use-gene-editing-make-better-babies - about this 'motion' "Use Gene Editing to Make Better Babies" ... you? You'd register with this link ...

Sobrante Ridge 2.5 miles' trail system sounds good .. is this it too - https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/el-sobrante-ridge-loop ?

Sobrante Ridge and 10 mile thru trail in Tilden and Redwoods seem less contested than debate above ... just tweeted these in these regards too

Happy Valentine's day!

Ma,

How are you? And how is your week going? (Are we going to live for a very long time? Any interest in this genetic editing debate this afternoon - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1494341090001883136 - where Harvard Medical School George Church is one of the debaters? It's at 5pm ET your time:)

While N.P. MD seems like an interesting MD from 3 photos, and if her 'K.S.' is an inhibitory coping mechanism, and if she is 'er- ' oriented too ... but connecting naturally has much merit, and she's far ... and where I'm living next is a bit still up in the air, although Ed texted me last night, surprisingly asking if I wanted to go for a hike this Saturday (after 3 SF SCHOOL Board of Supervisors' trial ended ... about which I'm wondering connection-wise ... and regarding calling for abolition too) ...

Would she know genetics and as a MD ? I think besides the upcoming longevity genetics' papers I hope to research in innovative ways and co-author (scottmacleod.com), I think letting the health organizations like Kaiser Permanente administer, work with the FDA, and even begin to collaborate with industry like Pfizer (maybe in collaboration with World Univ & Sch too) develop their approaches to longevity genetics' drugs forever has much sense :)

Avocados are .58 cents each in the local big value-oriented chain! :)

Seeking to connect naturally with a 20-something attractive MD in the SF Bay Area ... and who might know much about genetics ... N's parents may be D. and A.P., and affiliate with Grace Episcopal Church around P. MA, and she may have an adopted older brother named Tariq, and she may have a sister A. ... am continuing to circulate :) Talk with you soon!

Love, Scott

Dear Ma, Joan, John, Ed, All,

Academic Medical Center on the ridge in Canyon - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2022/01/osage-orange-maclura-pomifera.html ...

Ed's call (& project?) last night "lead to me wondering about putting a new academic Stanford-Kaiser Permanente Medical Center with Warm Water Cure up on the ridge in Canyon 94516 ... with Air Conditioning (AC) ... and for Actual-virtual, Physical-digital research, including even talk MD psychiatry (with Chat Bot software too) ... And even with you as Medical Director ... And also to develop 331 million US Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records and also the remainder of all 7.9 billion people on planet each a Wikidata Pin# :) ... WUaS Longevity Genetics' Institute too ... (And maybe B.H. MD could be a research director). ... :) Let's talk about this on Sunday :)"

Yet also ... For the 'Work Wiki World University and School Hippy Commune' of individuals ...

Hi Ma,

Lots of contested views in this 'gene editing' debate I just heard ... Did you hear it ? ...  But fascinating and good to air the issues at a high level (germ line vs somatic, equitability, covert nation states' governments' experiments, eugenics' questions, with this MIT Tech Review cover being mentioned - "Marcy Darnovsky just called out MIT Technology Review for having a blue eye blonde baby on our designer babies cover from 2015."
https://twitter.com/antonioregalado/status/1494444483987058690, re-Tweeted by Stanford Law Prof and Bioethicist, Hank Greely etc.) ... appreciating George Church's gene editing thinking ... And the progressive debate (since all 5 were progressive) ... am still undecided about the motion ... Interesting to get into a formal contested ideas space ... Which the west does well ...

I think they're going to keep debate open for 7 days ... To allow further voting ... Was impressed too with John Donvan the moderator ...

... Ed didn't attend gene editing debate, and is visiting his aunt instead  ... in Concord? he wrote ...

Genetic engineering revolution drug therapies emerging ... Which aren't just adding substances, but importantly editing genes, and adding and subtracting them too ... Whole new world of medicine ...for all 200 countries ...

Debate on gene editing ... Yields some engaged tweets from Stanford Law prof Hank Greely

In this debate, George Church just called mRNA vaccines gene therapy.  This is sufficient to be banned from further speech.

Interesting to see that George Church is saying mRNA vaccines are gene editing in a way ...

Am wondering how such a panel will inform Longevity Genetics' engineering thinking (and potentially re WUaS Longevity Genetics' Institute too)...

How's your day going?

Love, Scott

Stanford Medicine -  “Clinical Informatics Education” talk today 2/17/22

Dear Dr Lindsay Stevens, and Jonathan Chen,

Thanks so much for your great and timely Electronic Health Records' talk -

“Clinical Informatics Education”

Following up in email with a few further questions below, and regarding what I wrote in the text chat. Thanks for your response.

"Great and thank you for this timely talk! In terms of optimization, personalization, education, how could Electronic Health Records emerging from EPIC, at Stanford Medicine, interoperate with the Stanford / Duke Univ. / Google Verily Project Baseline to further develop Learning Health Systems conceptually?

Could Stanford Medicine initiate even a replacement of EPIC with EHR emerging from Google Verily Stanford's Duke's Project Baseline, and scale this to all ~200 countries?

And beyond the EPIC ticket system, in what ways could medical doctors, and patients, further develop these concepts proactively and iteratively ... perhaps with Google Verily Project Baseline - https://www.projectbaseline.com/faq-general/? In what ways could you see Stanford Medicine EHR moving toward Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records - and even in planning for tele-robotic surgery - even with a FilmTo3D Application, for developing medical imaging, and even in all ~200 countries, and for speakers of all 7,139 known living languages, for Learning health systems?
